Jamba Juice

Ok my friend is really trying to lose weight and doing a good job so far

he's been eating healthy, lifting, running

He figured he would have a smoothie after working out, but when he got it it had like 60 g of sugar, 86 carbs, and like over 300 calories

Is this bad for him? I feel like there are different types of carbs and sugar and certain ones are worse for you

thanks for any help I (and he) really appreciate it

It sounds like 300 empty calories to me so my answer would be yes, it's bad for him. Those 300 calories could be a huge amount of fresh, raw, vegetables, fresh fruit, or lean protein.

He'd be better off with a whey shake and a half a bagel.

Of course I'm pretty new here so I'm sure there will be other, more experienced folks that can answer more completely.

It depends on the drink he picks... Jamba Juice can be a safe haven, or the death of us all.

I love the veggie only V-8...

picking off the list- almost insures you are getting a flavor seeler, verses a nutrient container.

that's all I've got on this one...

Sugar is more dense as far as calories go, and it doesn't "fill your tummy" as much as other foods like fiber, protein, etc... so he's drinking that which is really dense on calories and not really getting filled up when he could eat more stuff which is less dense...

ok alright who would have thought that a smoothie was that bad for you

I mean he's be better off eating two of the enterman's donuts i got lol

sucks for me too cuz it was buy one smoothie get the second free, oh well

Well what kind of smoothie??

Are the 100% All Fruit Smoothies good for you? Its basically Juice + Frozen Fruit blended

60 grams is an awful lot of sugar and I bet there was very little fiber to lessen the glycemic index. That's why whole fruit is so much better than juice, you get the natural fibers. With juice you remove the fiber and concentrate the sugar

I'm pretty sure you can get add ins at Jamba Juice to make it better for you. If he really wants that smoothie, he could at least add a shot of protein to it.

A post workout protein shake (water or milk + protein powder) might be an option. This can be further enhanced: Put 1 cup skim milk, a couple handfuls of frozen fruit, a frozen banana, and some protein powder into a blender, and blend til smooth. This will give you a great source of simple carbs and proteins without all the processed junk. (And it tastes great too).

well we all know fruits have sugar, so a lot of the sugars stated on the nutrition label for jambaq come from fruit... however; i'd like to know if all of it is pure fruit and no artificial sugars... if it does have a lot of sugars, the how much does it have... their site says nothing of 100% juice.... and if you were to combine the fruits in those drinks by yourself at home... it would not taste as good....
