Jaclyn's NEW Diary

Hey Everybody!

I'm back!

Back in black!

At least until I lose the rest of my weight.

So here's my deal. I began a diary on January 1st 2005. I weighed 240 pounds. From January until mid September I worked very hard to stick to a 1,200 diet and I exercised 3-4 days a week, on the elliptical and bike riding mostly. By August I had lost 60 pounds! But then I had a bad gallbladder attack and had to have my gallbladder removed. After the surgery I dropped another 10 pounds, give or take a few, but I lost my will to exercise and since I could suddenly eat foods that had been making me sick, due to my sick gallbladder, I slowly began allowing myself more cheats. Then I got a boyfriend, who in the beginning took me out to eat a lot. Between the surgery, my boyfriend, and the holidays I packed on ten pounds. A dieter's nightmare! I've ignored my diet buddies and I'm very disappointed in myself, however, I'm ready to be back in action.

I am 22 years old and a vegetarian. I've been a veg for 10 years and I'm very used to eating vegetarian. I'm a full time college student and I have a full time office job, so I'm always very busy, but I'm also very determined to meet my goal! I currently weigh 180 pounds.

-- How much weight do you want to lose? I would like to lose 40 pounds.

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? Realistically I believe I can lose 40 pounds in six months.

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? I will follow my low calorie regimen (1,200-1,500 cals a day) along with walking and light jogging, and when the weather warms up, swimming! When I have my endurance back up I'll do my best to make it to the gym for dates with the elliptical.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? I'm my best support system. I just bought an mp3 player to help me do my exercise and I make sure to give myself non-food rewards when I reach small goals. My best friend is also very supportive, even though she's a tiny 120 pounds herself. She is careful not to tempt me with foods and she has stomach problems of her own, so she has to limit her own eating habits.

-- How realistic is your goal? I lost 60 pounds in 8 months, so I think 40 in six is very doable.

-- When will you start? NOW!

The bingeing I did in the past few weeks scared the hell out of me. I reverted back into old disgusting habits--literally, eating breakfast and then having some potato chips, followed by ice cream, or candy. Fried foods--ugh, I ate fried foods every day, when in reality I should never EVER have them, not just because of the calories, but because I don't have a gallbladder to break them down! I felt like throwing up after every fattening thing I ate. And I would just eat more! UGH! It is such a horrible vicious cycle. But I've done it once and I can do it again.

Day Two is going well. I had a brilliant idea to bring a 24 pack of bottled water to work with me, so that I drink a lot of it, and I have been. So that's good. I'm stuck at work until 9, and then I'm going home to relax. I weighed myself this morning and I'm already down to 179.5 after one day of not eating like a pig. I love it. I feel good too, I'm not even really hungry, so it's going well. I'll post more later, including my food for the day.

Wow, a new diary for a new year!! How refreshing! I think I'll do that too!

Not bad!

I had a nice quiet boring New Years with Dan. I don't much care for parties, so we stayed home and watched some LOST (my obsession!) and That 70s Show and I Love the 80s and then romped around with each other for awhile and finally passed out a little after midnight. Happy New Years everyone. I hope that everyone is able to meet their goals.

I have today off, so I want to exercise, do some shopping, and some cleaning. Yay! I also really want some falafel, but I have to figure out how to make it lowfat style. I bet I can bake it. If I figure it out I'll post a recipe.

Operation Hot Jaclyn! How cute!

Your weight loss this past year has been very impressive. I know that you will do a great job this year too! Don't even think twice about the past few weeks. I think a lot of us have done the same thing. I had a really bad trip that I am very glad to be back from and we did a lot of eating out at fast food places. But it is a new year and a perfect time to start again!

Thanks for stopping by my new diary! :)

Thanks Hypo Hippo and Rosered! It's good to be back!

Especially since I think I've shed all of my water weight. I weighed in this morning at 175.5!

My stupid internet wasn't working yesterday, so here's my food for then:

Breakfast:
Egg Beaters (70)
2 Slices Veggie Bacon (60)
1 Blueberry Kashi Waffle with a tablespoon of light syrup (100)
Orange Juice (50)

Lunch:
Slim Fast Granola Bar (220)

Dinner:
No Fry Falafel!!! on pita with taboueleh salad, tomato, lettuce, and tahini sauce (400)
Cup of blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries (50)

Snack:
Mango (70)

Dessert:
Breyers Light Ice Cream Bar (170)

Total: 1190

What a great day of food! It was all so good! And healthy. The Kashi waffles are great, they're they Go Lean ones, and I really liked them. So did Dan. They have a lot of protein too. Then my no fry falafel was amazing. Here's how to make it:

Get falafel mix, at a whole food store or in the health food section of your grocery store (I'm positive Publix carries it.)
Make the mix with water per the directions on the box. Then, rather than frying your patties, you put them on a pan with Pam for a few minutes, until they're golden on both sides, and then broil them in the oven for 8 minutes.
Cut a whole wheat pita in half. Stuff both halves with lettuce and tomato. Add two falafel patties to each side and top with tabouleh salad and tahini sauce (also available at whole food stores--if you don't have one you might have to look the recipes up. Tabouleh is just finely chopped tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and parsley in lemon juice. Tahini is a paste made from seasame seeds. I found a tahini hummus, which I mixed with water, lemon juice, and garlic. The seasame seed paste is normall added to those ingredients to make the sauce, but I found the hummus worked great. The whole meal was awesome!

So today I work, but tomorrow I have off! I get three days off this week, because I worked on New Years Eve.

Haha, Rosered, unfortunately it's not three days off in a row. I had off Sunday, work today, off tomorrow, work Wednesday and Thursday, and then I'm off Friday, and I work Saturday. Yesterday I relaxed, tomorrow I have a meeting at school about my math test, and then I'm relaxing some more, and the same on Friday. School starts next week, so I'm doing my relaxing now, while I'm not a horrible mess.

I'm so excited that everyone is back in action and excited about it. This is why I joined this forum in the first place, a year ago. Angela, I'm glad you got the card! I sent my cards out kind of late, so I was afraid no one got them on time. I'm so bad with putting things in the mail. I don't know why. There are mailboxes everywhere, but I just suck at making it to them. Anyway, I forgot to mention yesterday that on Monday I took a walk around the big lake across the street from my job during lunch and yesterday I took a walk around my neighborhood before dinner. I'm planning on walking with my friend Jena during lunch today too. AND, I got my Dell DJ Ditty MP3 player, so once I figure out how to put music on it I'll really be moving! Woohoo!

Hi Jaclyn!!! I've been reading your journal and you just seem to upbeat and so down to earth! Very inspring tooo - congrats on all the weight lost already!!!
