Jacklinger's Food Journal

profound sadness!

Jack, I'm sorry you feel that way. Hang in there.

We've heard it a million times - it's not a diet it's a lifestyle change. But the statistics are not good. Most of us, it seems, are not prepared for what happens when we reach our goal, and we end up packing the weight back on.

I'm determined to beat the odds. I'll soon reach 1 year of being below the obesity level. I'm kind of proud of that.

8/19/10

Yesterday I ate:

Mini apple pie (about the size of a teacup saucer)
2 FiberOne bars
Half a big hamburger from Marie Calendars
3 oz can of chicken
Can of Chef Boyardee (it rolled off the shelf and followed me home from the grocery store just like in the commercial)
Lots of coffee

Total calories: don't know - about 1200? I don't really count anymore which is bad but I should.

Oh yeah I suppose I should set a new GW - my doc said 200 is a "good" weight will be pleased to see me there when I go see him today. I will ask him what my next weight should be and how many calories a day I can get away with to get there.

I cannot believe that you have Type 2 Diabetes and are eating this way.

Anyway, i'm 98% confident this thread is a big joke, and you are enjoying laughing at us trying to improve your diet which you are making as unhealthy as you can on purpose.

Well then you're 2% correct I guess ^_^
But I do have type 2 diabetes and have lost over 100 pounds and eat "modest" amounts of rich foods. I don't need to make my diet unhealthy on purpose -- it just sort of happens that way on its own. I just like tasty foods. Why can't we eat food that tastes good? As long as you don't overdo it you can have nearly anything you want. Only people with type 1 diabetes are extremely limited. Type 2 is sort of like mini-diabetes, even though it will still kill you if you don't watch your glucose.

I went to the doctor today and my blood pressure was 116/64 which is very very good. I got blood work done too and everything is ok except my HDL cholesterol which is was a bit low, and that's easily fixed with daily fish oil pills (assuming I could get myself to take them, they're yucky).

What - no snickers?

Just kidding, dude.

I'm just dying to ask, what is your job and why don't you have time to cook 'n' stuff? Just wondering because people keep trying to get you to cook even though you don't want to :p

I'm a bill collector and when I get home I just don't feel like cooking. I prefer to crack open a can of something. I will cook on Fridays though. I might make spaghetti or breaded chicken teriyaki and steamed rice.

9/4/10

ate 4 donuts, had some coffee, bag of pretzels, going to have a big labor day meal with family later on.

I've been eating a lot of apple pie recently too. I love those Hostess' apple pies. Those things are great.

Oh I love your diary =) It's so fascinating. But I really disagree with what you say about eating stuff that tastes good. To me, steamed broccoli and carrots lightly dribbled with soy sauce tastes AMAZING. The ultimate comfort food. Or heavily seasoned steamed broccoli. Tastes way better than a hamburger or candy bar ever could =)

think yew!

Well then I shall envy your fabulous tastes!!

Sometimes I'll steam some veggies and rice but by the time I've put it all together it's like 600 calories and a candy bar is only 250. Yes the rice is necessary. Eating veggies all by themselves is like anti-prozac, makes me profoundly sad.

9/6/10

Had 4 more donuts
and #2 meal from Wendys
and 3 cups of coffee w/ cream no sugars

Total calories -- lots, maybe around 2000? oy I can't lose weight on that much. Good thing I also walked 5 miles, lifted weights for 20 min, and then walked on my eliptical for 50 min, might do some more before bed time too.

Hmm... It just doesn't make sense how you're still alive with your diet. But then, I really have no concept of what the average American eats in a day, so who knows?

But like everyone else is saying, your diet really is insulting to those of us who cut out junk food and put effort into preparing healthy food for ourselves. >.<

I didn't realize having food that tasted good was insulting to someone. What a strange religion modern dieting has become ^_^

My doctor is still very pleased with my progress and everything looks good except my HDL which is just a tad low. I should be taking fish oil pills for that but keep forgetting :p

So, 9/14/10 I ate this:

Hostess apple pie
pint of whole milk
2 FiberOne bars
pack of Starburst candy
can of Chef-Boyar-Dee pasta stuff - very tasty!
About 6 cups of coffee - no sugar, yes cream

Exercise - 1 hour of walking

I will probably do more exercise before bed and also probably eat about another 400 calories or so before bed.

Yesterday I had:

Hostess apple pie
Pint of 2% milk
1 krispy kreme donut
1 Fiber One bar
1 can of Chef-boyar-dee
1 "thing" of Muscle Milk drink - very tasty banana cream flavor
and a ton of coffee

Oh dear lord.

I literally CRINGED the entire time I was reading your diary. I'm not usually one to severely criticize anyone, but I simply cannot help myself at the moment. I have several problems with you, or rather, your attitude. I do not know you personally, so I cannot judge you as a person, but I do feel I have some right to judge your attitude as it is very poor.

1. Your diet absolutely disgusts me. It really does. Not you, YOUR DIET. So please, take no offense at what I just said. I was in no way implying that you yourself are the cause for my distaste. Its horrible. Its unhealthy. Its BEGGING for some serious illness to pop up years later. You already have diabetes, why in the world would you continue to eat such fatty, greasy, sugary foods when it will do nothing more than deteriorate your health in the long-run. Your Dr. says you're healthy now, but what about LATER? Do you honestly think eating like this will do you any good years from now? The answer is NO. No, it won't. Its ok to eat foods that we like, but have you ever heard of moderation?

2. Just because its working doesn't mean its the right way to do it. You've lost 100lbs eating this crap (excuse my language, but that's what it is), and I commend you on such an outstanding accomplishment. BUT, and there is always a but, this goes straight back to your diet. Where are your meats? Veggies? Fruits? All I see in your day-to-day meals are crap, crap, and more crap! (again, please excuse the language) Sure, there's the occasional canned meal and fast-food order, which do contain these things, but they're either severely processed or grilled and fried till their nutrients are simply bathed in grease. The only reason I've been able to come up with for your weight-loss is because of your exercising, which is good. That is one thing I suggest you keep up.

3. You're laziness astounds me to no end. I don't have a job yet, though I am looking, so I don't understand what its like to come home after a day at the office, but I'm in college and I work my ass off every single day. I wake up early to feed and walk the dogs and then I'm off to class. When I come home I go to the gym for an hour or two and then come home to help my Mom with household chores. I shower, change, take a short nap, and then I sit down and study and write papers and work on projects until I have to leave for class til 10 AT NIGHT. And yet, between all that, I still find the time to eat a healthy meal. Or atleast MAKE AN EFFORT to. When the dogs are eating, I pop a slice of bread in the toaster or warm up a bowl of oatmeal. When I'm studying and looking for a small energy boost to carry me on to the next meal, what do I eat? I eat an apple. Or a banana. Or nuts. They're just as convenient as a candy bar or donut and provide much better nutrional value than either of those.

4. Man up. Seriously. You make an excuse for everything. Stop it. I mean it. STOP IT. Don't know what I'm talking about? Here's a few examples:

It doesn't just "sort of happen." IT HAPPENS. And it happens because you do absolutely NOTHING to change it. We CAN eat foods that taste good, but its necessary to do so in moderation. And you, sir, are NOT eating these foods in moderation. These are your daily foods. Don't deny it either; just look back through your diary and you'll see that you eat junk EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Again. LAZY. Your only reason is because you just "dont feel like it."

I didn't realize having food that tasted good was insulting to someone. What a strange religion modern dieting has become ^_^.

It's insulting because you show complete disregard to what these people go through. Everyone here is trying to make a change for the better; eating less food, cutting back on the food they love, choosing healthier options. They work HARD not just to lose weight, but to make themselves into healtheir, happier people. And seeing you completely blow off half of what it means to make this sort of life-style change is seriously frustrating.

Ok..I think that's enough. Sorry for the HUGE wall of text, but it needed to be said. And if for any reason, I get in trouble for anything said, well then..I believe it was the God-honest truth and I regret nothing. Absolutely nothing.

So I guess there really are people out there who subsist entirely on a diet of "food" that isn't even really food.

I hate the food snobs and purists and organic freaks just as much as the next layperson but really, try eating "clean" or even clean-ish for a week and see how your body responds. You're probably feeling lazy and sluggish partially because of what you're eating - food is fuel, but candy bars aren't really food.

I used to make the same excuses about vegetables going bad etc but if you only buy the amount you are going to eat that day you're out of excuses.

I don't see how your eating candy bars is insulting to the rest of us but it is pretty insulting to yourself since you can probably afford to eat better.

Consider this: It takes less than 10 minutes to boil some water and drop in a few bok choys. You can stir-fry anything in under 10 minutes. Tofu is already cooked and you can eat it straight out of the package. You don't actually need 100 cups of coffee a day.

Of course you're the only one who can make the change.

wowowo

I don't disregard what others have to go through at all. I went through it myself. And it didn't work. So I gave up and am doing it my own way -- with doctor's advice of course.

And I'm not sure I have much rebuttal for the rest of what you said. I guess I'm just too lazy ^_^

Again with the hate? Gracious! Have a donut and some coffee guys! ^_^ You two are going to have a heart attack way before I do if you don't calm down.

I have a few questions though:
1. What's a bok choy?
2. What do you use to stir fry that it only takes 10 minutes? And what is a stir fry?
3. Tofu is disgusting, how come it exists?
4. I don't need 100 cups of coffee a day, I'm just fine on 10 or so.
5. I guess #4 wasn't a real question, it was more of a statement wasn't it?

Have a nice day!

9/30/10

Today I ate:

Hostess apple pie - 400-something cal
Coffee - ~20cal
Medium bag of Rold Gold pretzels - 230 cal
Coffee - ~20cal
Slice of key lime pie - who knows?
Turkey club "torpedo" from Quiznos - umm, 600-ish?
I will have more coffee before going to bed probably too

And of course my usual exercise.
