Hey all!
Just wanted to drop a line and introduce myself. My name is Brione (Brie-on-ee) and I'm from Victoria, BC. I'm one of those kids who has struggled with my weight from the time I was a little girl and, after trying just about every diet on the market aside from surgery, I decided to take a real hard look at what was wrong with me and I came up with some conclusions:
1) I am way to addicted to potato chips.
2) I am afraid of cooking anything without a recipe.
3) I am my own worst enemy in this battle.
For a long time, I blamed my family for my problem, but none of them have the same problem I do. They can down as many bags of chips as they want and still be nice and slim, but I can not. They would not abide to my request to keep such food out of the house (and really, it's their house, they shouldn't have to banish food just because of me), and since I couldn't rely on my self control which I greatly lack, I decided to move out. I am now living with other members of my family who share my problem and I'm on the track to improving my health, my body, and my confidence.
So what am I doing now? My family and I are on the weight watchers program, which has taken 10 pounds off my frame in a month (and I slipped a few times with junk food), so that impressed me. Now I have decided to add exercise as well. At the time in my life that I was in the best shape, I was about 9 years old and I was swimming every day and taking jazz dance classes. I loved swimming and now am doing aquafit courses and, once I have improved my fitness level, I hope to return to dance. I've learned this much, if you're going to exercise, you've got to love it or you'll fall off the wagon!
On a whim, I purchased a set of Turbo Jam videos and these weighted gloves, which I put to the test today. OWCH! It's hard! But I was sweating before we got five minutes past the warmups so I think it will be a good thing, even though I find it hard to keep up so far. A little practice should fix that.
For those of you who are interested in following my journey, I am going to be keeping a weight loss diary, in which I will share my progress and my pearls of wisdom, which I have every now and then. It's a pleasure meeting all of you and best of luck to those of you on a journey like my own!
