It's not hopeless for me is it?

All my life I've been heavier set and its always bothered me. It wasn't until last summer I really started to try and lose weight by stopping the soda intake and getting myself more active. Since then I have lost 29 pounds (Yes, its been a slow process) going from 213 to 184 currently. Some tell me I should be just about at the right weight for my age (17) but I dislike this because I still look like I did when I was 213. I still have a big gut, double chin, and big legs/arms. If I'm nearing the requested weight for my age and height (5'10 or 5'11) then why do I still have all this fat? For people like me is it truly impossible to ever get thin?

P.S. I checked the online BMI and I'm still in the overweight section, but only by a point. Shouldn't I have noticed at least some difference?

I suggest that you check out the exercise section of the forum - especially the sticky threads.

A lot of people find that becoming more active - although it helps you burn calories - does not give them the toned figure that they were hoping for.

People often find that exercises designed to build muscles help with that whole area - so it may be that your exercise is all stuff like walking and running which does not build muscles in the same way.

I wouldn't listen to what people say. I would go by BMI. I have seen several different numbers for ideal body weight for your height, 5'11", because I too am the same height.

I used to think 180 was the goal but realized somewhere around 155 seems to be the general ideal weight. At 180 I still had love handles which bothered me and I was still in like 36" pants. Now they are pretty much gone and I'm moving to 32" waist.

Long story short, keep going.

After I lost my weight, I still had a lot of loose skin. This made it look like I was still fat, but after a few months, the skin tightened up, and now I look great. You're in luck, because you're so young, your skin should have no problems at all tightening up.
