It's About Time To Finally Do Something

Hello everyone.

I'm 29 and married with two boys. I am a full time law student and a stay at home mom. After getting married and having two kids, I honestly let myself go...just got lazy. After the death of my grandmother in January, finally deciding after ten years to go back to school, quitting smoking cold turkey-I've finally decided that it's time to get off my hump and lose this weight. It really hit me when a couple weeks ago I got on the scale and it said 250. I swear I wanted to crawl in a hole and forget about everything but then I got to thinking...if I can go back to school and quit smoking, I can certainly do this. Before when I tried to lose weight it was always using some sort of "diet pill" and kinda taking the lazy way out. This time I decided that I'm going to go about it the "natural" way with diet and exercise. So...for the last week I have walked atleast a mile and a half every morning, come back home and do more cardio for about 30 minutes more and then do a little weight training. I weighed in last friday and I only lost half a pound..before that I had somehow gotten down to 245 without doing anything. I was honestly discouraged but I found out that I was actually gaining muscle and that in turn will help shed the fat and get me in better shape. So today I weighed in and I was already down to 241. Love those numbers! LOL So...I am giving myself til June 2009 to be at atleast 165..this is when we are moving back to Seattle. I want to be able to do all the outdoors stuff there and not be too fat where I can't enjoy them. It's great to have found a place like this and with all the success stories, it only gives me more motivation!

Hello and Welcome!
I've heard a lot of stories similar as yours, many find food as the only solution to dwell in their feelings.
It's only making things much worse if you let your food or your body control you.
I usually let food call me and my nose just leads me to it. I don't think much when I use to eat the unhealthy food. I've gotten much better since a few years ago, I'd tell myself I'd eat only one chocolate donut, but after one I'd eat all of the 5 out of 6 donuts! that was crazy and I knew I needed to change.
The problem is that we sometimes say what the snot..why not eat just one. without thinking about it. Once we notice we've eaten more than we should.
Forgive me for my rambling
This is a good start. Muscle weighs more than fats that's probably why.
Also remember to drink lots of water, I heard that even sucking onn ice is healthy? not sure thought.

From one Coffee to another, welcome! Dont let yourself get discouraged. I found after the first couple of weeks that I got used to the routine and I havnt had as much of a problem staying on it. Keep going, and remember that even if you are not losing weight quickly or right away all of the cardio is still helping your body become healthier.

Cheers!

Just wanted to say hello and welcome. I myself drink way too much coffee. Congrats on the weight loss so far. You have come to a great place for support. You will find that walking will pay off. I walk and today I tried to run. But you are right with the gaining of muscle they will burn calories while you are resting. And that is a great thing. I live in Maine and I too am getting in shape to enjoy hiking in the great Acadia Park. Good Luck to you. Tina:seeya:

Thanks! I cannot believe how much I am actually enjoying exercising now lol it's weird because before I could never seem to find the time for it even though I had ample time. Now I feel weird if I don't exercise. I think today though I'm gonna take a break. I've been going strong for the last five days and have seen a MAJOR difference. I've already lost 7 pounds this week and it's not from starving. I'm eating about 1300 calories a day but I've been doing lots of cardio and some weight training. I only hope that the weightloss continues to be this easy for me... yeah right hehe

I know just what you mean
I started (again) Monday and I am hooked to jogging, I feel like it's addicting and if I don't do any sort of exercise I do nuts
At times it's easy and other times it's not so easy, but let that desire to exercise keep going =)

Hi Everyone! I am brand new to this forum, and am about to begin my journey to weight loss!!! I am 27, and I play roller derby. Though roller derby is a fabulous work out, we end each practice with beer and bar food... Well, NO MORE!!

I feel i am really going to need the support of others. Just people to talk to to keep this up. I saw a nutritionist and designed a plan for MY life... 4 days in, and i'm feelin' great!!!

=)

I totally agree with the working out thing. It has become something I have to do not so much now need to do. And I don't mean that I am at my goal it means in order to feel right I have to. I guess I could be hooked on worse things. Good Luck to you all and stay strong! Tina:hurray:

Hi! We should be weight loss buddies :D We are starting at about the same place. I weighed in at 245 this morning. I'm new here, too... I'm also a stay at home mom (to a 3 yr old boy). I gained 100 lbs during my pregnancy!!! Can you believe that? Well, I hope you continue to succeed, and ultimately reach your goal!

Hi. Im new here too. I am trying to lose 20 pounds, and my boyfriends sister is pushing to do a triathlon with her. Hopefully I can lose the weight and get in shape. I have been doing spinning which I love so much. I actually enjoy going to the classes and working out. And I lift free weights 3 times a week. I've seen an improvement!.... My love handles are started to go away!

If anyone needs to talk about weight loss or just life in general, I'm here. I dont have many friends to talk to so it'll be nice to finally have people.

i can totally believe that about gaining 100 pounds during pregnancy. when i was prego with my first child, i gained 70 pounds. my doctor never told me that i shouldn't eat really just for myself. everyone was always saying that you need to eat more for your baby...so i did...and the cravings i had were insane lol ah well....you live and learn i guess.

if you wanna be my weight loss buddy that's cool with me! i don't have one yet lol good luck in your journey!!

Ha, I had gained 70 lbs by my 7th month. I pretty much gained 10 lbs a month. Yes, definitely we should be buddies :D I'm afraid I don't lose weight very easily, so you'll probably pull way ahead of me on that score, but hey, that'll be a confidence booster for you, right :p I plan to update probably on Monday mornings with my weight. I'll keep looking for your posts : )

Thanks for the message, Coffee, but I couldn't reply. I got some kind of notice saying I needed a minimum of 5 days membership to use it... Oh well, I guess I will try again in a few days. I plan to try joining a gym tonight. I have a hard time getting into exercising at first as well, but after I while I like doing it, and am disappointed when I miss out on a workout. I've found that I have to do both diet and exercise or I don't get any results. My husband is working on losing weight, too, but it's so much easier for him. He can eat what he wants in smaller portions and go for a few walks and he's golden. Sometimes I want to smack him :boxing:

no worries!!! i'll just wait for your message. how's your weightloss going so far? i'm getting kinda tired...well just been dragging the last few days i have three finals on me this week for school so i wanna pull my hair out! lol good luck!
:seeya:

Wow, you have been moving along! I think just a few days ago you were down 7 lbs. Now you're down 9.2? Impressive :D I think I'm down a couple since I started, but it seems the scale says something different every time I get on. Even just a few seconds apart. My scale sucks I guess. Maybe I need a more accurate one. I plan to only record my weight on Mondays, though. On a positive note, I'm going to work out at my new gym for the first time tonight. I'm excited :hurray: Well, good luck on your finals, and congratulations on your success so far!

Hey thanks. I try to walk atleast a mile a half each morning and that's walking briskly...then I come home and do some cardio and some resistance training for about another hour. A little here little there. Sometimes I wanna plop my butt down and eat junk food but I am trying very hard to make myself stay accountable. Good luck on your weight loss. The first week was discouraging to me because I wanted to see results right then but I am trying to have patience. lol How are you doing? Are you able to check your inbox on here yet? lol

Who Doesn't Love (or need) Coffee?

Well Congrats on deciding to get healthy! It is much easier said than done and I admire your level commitment! Weight loss has been a very long and difficult struggle for me, but all my hard work is definitely paying off! I started taking which helped me lose the initial first pounds and really helped get me motivated to lose more. I finally got a gym pass..although I'm not a huge fan. Now that the weather is getting warmer, and summer is beginning, I plan on spending my days outside and staying active! Good luck with your weight loss! Keep us updated!
