It hurtsss!

I'm new here, and have another Nutrition inquiry thread http://weight-loss.fitness.com/nutrition/11402-hi-new-here-need-advice.html

But, my exercise question is:

2 parts.

1- I suffer from (sometimes very severe) chronic back pain. Where everything hurts. Sleeping hurts, sneezing hurts...etc. I have a femur that is 11mm shorter than the other and instead of my spine trying to compensate over 5-6+ verterbrae with a slow gradual curve, it compensates with a drastic angle in 1-2. (By curve, I mean... compensating so I stand up 'straight' and not look like the walking Leaning Tower of Piza)

and

2- I am..well endowed...up top. (Which I'm sure contributes to #1 as well) I have a small frame: 5'3, sz 2-3, and wear at least a 34F in bra size. It is impossible to find a bra that fits (sport bra and regular) If I can squeeze into a XL it fits the bust, but then the band doesn't even touch around the rib cage!

I want to maybe run/jog outside since the weather is getting nice instead of sitting inside in the basement on my elliptical. (Plus, I wouldn't mind the tan)

But, jogging is PAINFUL. To my back, shoulders, chest... (and my knees)

Can I jog? Or am I stuck with the elliptical? Can it be just as effective?

(I'm not worried about losing pound after pound, I just want to un-jiggle a few areas and tone up)

Wow I am so sorry you go through pain like that. I would think you would want to ask a doctor about how much strain you should put on your body. You have a double issue with a size F and a spine that is out of line. The eliptical is a great way to workout and it is as good as running and without the joint strain.
Also if you are just un-jiggleing you may look into a weight training program which will firm you up. I hope you find something that is relativly pain free!! You shouldn't have to hurt like that to work out and you don't want to cause long term damage!!

My Dr is so clueless... He didn't even find the issues with my back...They basically ignored what I was saying and tried to throw pills and painkillers at me...

I went to a Chiro. to get X-rays and then talked to my Dr.. he listened a little more.

I'm hoping my elliptical yiels results- I do enjoy the fact it doesn't cause me a lot of pain.

And then the gym will be good for toning muscles. I wish they have personal trainers.

Blah! Any ideas where to look for toning programs?

I should google and see what I find...after all thats how I found this place!

Shape magazine is my favorite for finding workouts! Also there is online training if you don't have a trainer at your gym. There could be personal trainers in the phone book?? Not sure. Good luck!!

Have you tried an Osteopath?? Mine helps me a lot with my strange neck problems (I fractured a few vertebrae in my neck when I was 10 doing gymnastics and the muscles and stuff never recovered).
Try it!! xxMilaxx

Yes, the elliptical will be just as effective as running. Its all about calories in vs. calories burned and the elliptical does a pretty good job at allowing you to burn high amounts of calories. :) hope this helps some

I had to google Osteopath-- I had no idea what that even was. I'll have to look into it!

I just bought a "Fitness" magazine today... Haven't paged through it yet. Probably will when I get off here...

Thanks for the info/insight everyone!

Enell.com.. they make an awsome sports bra! I have the same problem I'm the same size and its hard to find good bras.. and man those puppies don't move.. They are around 60$ and they have a bunch!
