issue with deadlifting

I wear gloves and my hands don't slip. What kept on slipping for me though was doing shoulder shrugs and I had my gloves on. I was thinking of getting those straps but I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do.

If you're losing grip, there are two trains of thought with which to fix this issue.

1.) Improve your grip strength. This will, of course, improve with time, however if you can deadlift more, then see number 2.

2.) Improve your grip. Get gloves, and if you're still losing the bar, get straps. They negate the need for as strong of a grip, and assist you in pulling the heavy weights. Of course, your grip strength will still progress, albeit a little slower.

I just started lifting with Harbinger's Pro Wristwraps. Not too expensive ($15, or $9 with a pro discount) but they make a world of difference.

Because it's the closest thing to a natural lift you'll get. The straps relieve too much of your grip because you dependant on them - that doesn't help you in the long run. And I think gloves look gay (no science).

to improve your grip, grab a towel and twist it like u are wringing out the water. i think its judo or ju jitsu where that is a main exercise because it enhances their grappling ability.

i see your point, but i guess it depends on your purpose. if you are deadlifting to improve mass, then you will likely be capable of pulling up much more than you can hang on to. in this case, straps would be helpful. also, if you are a powerlifter, they are legal in competition.

Good call on the chalk, I never thought of that when I'd posted. It will improve your grip, and also give you better grip strength going forward. So, it looks like the answer is chalk or gloves for improved grip for moderate to heavy weights, and straps for the times that the chalk or gloves just don't cut it.

try chalk, if it doesnt work go with the straps. if you do use straps then make sure you workout your forearm & grip strength directly bc it wont be used nearly as much.

I use the gloves not only for grip but actually mostly to protect my wrists. I work at a computer all day and I'm developing RSI (tendonitis, carpel tunnel, etc) as it is - so I have to take good care of them.

It's a spray on chalk that acts like a tacky that's not to sticky. I'm going to get some just for peace of mind during bb snatches.
