Is this good?

ok so pretty much what ur saying is if I feel hungry done go directly for the chips, maybe eat some fruit, veggies, or like a bagel or something like that? Would a small amount if trail mix be healthy if you have a sweet tooth instead of candy?

Exactly! You get it! :D

lol you all are hilarious lol. Also is running a mile in !0 min 20 sec bad for me since i just started out? In about a week when i can run a mile almost nonstop or nonstop im gonna go for 2 miles. Today i ate a biscuit, and sausage at school for breakfast, the same meal i listed for lunch(the grapes, carrots, strawberries, bottled water, and turke sandwhich on toasted wheat.) and some pasta for dinner(pretty much spaghetti but it was also baked in the oven). I had extra grapes as a snack and some trail mix. I had a tea biscuit or two. Did todays diet sound good for me? Like is it healthy?

No, your diet sounds very bad. Please read the nutrition sticky in the nutrition forum. I think you really need to focus on this part and less on the running part.

It could be a lot worse. Living the bodybuilder lifestyle you don't understand how badly normal people really eat.

Here is what my ex-girlfriend told me she eats when I asked her..

"I know you just want to scrutinize lol, but I'll indulge you. For instance, yesterday I ate:

1 fruit grain bar thing
approximately 3 spoonfuls of cottage cheese ( I can't eat much of that stuff without feeling sick.)
1 bowl of chicken noodle soup
probably 1.5 cups of stuffing
1-2 glasses of orange soda (no caffiene mind you)
oh and some sun chips ( probably about 15-20 of them)

... I probably need more fruit huh? Among other things. LOL.

And today I've had:
1 bowl raisin bran (but the raisins were rock hard so I didn't eat it all)
1 bowl of chicken noodle soup (left over of course)
1 cup stuffing ( left over lol)
1 glass of orange soda :p
1 oreo cakester and glass of milk (have you tried those, they taste just like cake!)
1 piece of left over peporonni pizza (wasn't very good... pizza left over never is)"

So really, I wouldn't bog the kid down with having the perfect diet, it's really not all that bad... it's pretty clean anyway.

He's only 13, and being that young and in school your diet isn't completely up to you.... I wouldn't discourage him like that.

I think your doing fine just have some patience.

Yeah zraigy, just keep reading and learning. I think it's great that you are on this website, you are really getting ahead of the game. People are going to be jealous of you someday. Your diet isn't perfect no, but it doesnt need to be. Just do your best to continuously improve it. Its all about making gains.

My post wasn't harsh at all, being harsh implies a personal attack of some sort. It was just straight forward. His diet is bad. time to make it better. that's what he's here for. If he wants someone to tell him his diet is good when its bad, then that's a bummer. If he didn't want opinions, he wouldn't have asked. Just because it could be worse doesn't mean it's good. It's not going to get them where they want to be, and that's why they're here. he/she wants to better their life, tiptoeing around and lying to someone wont do that. Their diet is bad. Let's make it better.

Good point.

Encouragement is an incredibly important thing. However, what behavior is being encouraged is even more important.

Personally, I don't think your diet sounds bad. Just don't make it a habit of eating too much sausage :D AS we were saying before, just be aware of what you are eating, and instead of reaching for the snickers, grab that apple!

Wow, 10 minute mile? Pretty good start! I couldn't do that when I started running! If you are going to continue running often you may want to look into getting some good running shoes. They will be very helpful.

So, I think you are doing great! Hell, You are doing WAY better than I was at 13!

Keep going!
Cheers,
Diane

obviously I wasn't the only one who thought you could use more tact. I still disagree. At 13 it all has to start somewhere, he doesn't need to be making giant changes and drinking protein drinks for heavens sake. His diet ISN"T that bad for someone his age, in fact I bet he is eating better than most...

I said he needs to make giant changes and drink protein drinks where? Because it would be interesting to see me say thigns in my sleep that I don't agree with.

He may be "eating better than most" but that doesn't mean he's eating good. Or you could just tell him he's awesome and let him flounder around without any guidance.

If you disagree so much, you could be more constructive and instead of just telling him:

"IT'S BAD!!! go read the stickies"

you could actually make some suggestions??? Explain WHY it is soooo bad?

:SaiyanSmilie_anim::SaiyanSmilie_anim::SaiyanSmilie_anim:CAT FIGHT!!!:SaiyanSmilie_anim::SaiyanSmilie_anim::SaiyanSmilie_anim:

We'll just have to cyber-imagine the two of you tearing eachothers clothes off and scraping it out.....all in the name of proper nutrition.

Okay....I'm gonna stick-up for Sara. She really does mean well, but darn if this type of response on threads doesn't seem to plague her. Sara is like a fire-fighter who shows-up at a home burning....she doesn't politely knock on the door and wait for someone to gracefully answer, she just swings her axe (with proper form and her abs tight) and makes her entrance. She's not going to apologize or back-down; if she thinks the diet is bad, she just says so. At the same time, she'll offer help and offer her resources. Yeah, she's a bit of a bull in a china shop....but we all have our personalities....or something like that.

Sara has spent a lot of time working on a few stickies for these types of questions. A lot of people come through eating "Baked Lays" and drinking Diet Coke and wonder why they're in terrible shape. Granted, Baked Lays and Diet Coke are BETTER than the regular, it's still NOT GOOD!

The OP would be much better off reading the stickies and educating himself rather than going on blindly because someone told him his diet was "good" to pump his self esteem.

To the OP, in my opinion... your diet may be better than average, but will do very little to help you reach your goals. There's a lot of great information on this site that has been thoroughly discussed and debated. It can be found at the top of each sub-forum in the "stickies". If you have questions after reading through these, feel free to ask and there are plenty of people that are willing to help.

Look the stickies were put together with a lot of thought and effort to give people basic information.

I've been 13 and wanting to lose weight, i'd be happy for someone to say "your diet is bad, here is a really good resource to give you some idea" Stop turning this into a bicker fight about absolutely nothing when I actually gave advice and you gave "it's fine *teehee* and even though it got you were you are don't change it because telling you to change it will somehow upset peoples sensibilities" When I was 13 I would've been thrilled for someone like me to come along to help and would've been mad at the people like you turning it into some sort of ridiculousness.

To the original poster - if you want to talk, or need some advice, I'll reply to that. You can contact me via my profile information or PM. Your diet really isn't that good even if other people are too scared to say so. Read teh stickied threads and you will get a lot of really great information.

1. Let's slow down here a little bit people. The OP is 13, and it's not like he's the one shopping for groceries. He's doing a hell of a lot better than most 13 year olds and the fact that he can stick to fresh snacks in the form of fruits and veggies over the processed crap is very good. If anything, I'd be worried about making sure he's getting enough calories, but hopefully the OP's hunger level can help dictate that.

2. Derwyddon, I'm sure you put a lot of effort into your nutrition sticky, and it's a decent starting point, but it leaves something to be desired as well. I do not believe you are a licensed nutritionist (if you are then I apologize), so just like anyone else's on these forums, your words shouldn't be taken as nutrition law. I mean, you do not cover micro nutrients at all. And beyond that. simply directing the OP, who is only a teenager, to it, is not adequate on a forum such as this without adding to the post itself, so that your views can be openly debated by the rest of us, much like ours are. For instance, the OP is a teenager, and as such, may not have the ability to access food for the 5-6 small meals a day routine, especially in school settings. And the fact of the matter is that a diet comprised of 3 squares isn't necessarily a BAD thing.

I don't think it's right to simply say, "your diet sucks, go look at this" without giving specific reasons as to why, and then responding to criticism of your post with "PM me" cuts the rest of us out completely to debate your thoughts on diet and nutrition when it comes to the OP, which is not the point of this thread.

Tact
Pronunciation: \ˈtakt\
Function: noun
Etymology: French, sense of touch, from Latin tactus, from tangere to touch — more at tangent
Date: 1797
1 : sensitive mental or aesthetic perception <converted the novel into a play with remarkable skill and tact>
2 : a keen sense of what to do or say in order to maintain good relations with others or avoid offense
synonyms tact, address, poise, savoir faire mean skill and grace in dealing with others. tact implies delicate and considerate perception of what is appropriate <questions showing a lack of tact>. address stresses dexterity and grace in dealing with new and trying situations and may imply success in attaining one's ends <brought it off with remarkable address>. poise may imply both tact and address but stresses self-possession and ease in meeting difficult situations <answered the accusations with unruffled poise>. savoir faire is likely to stress worldly experience and a sure awareness of what is proper or expedient <the savoir faire of a seasoned traveler>.

I'm glad someone else is considering other factors.

The fact that he would come here in the first place is something that also needs to be taken into consideration. At 13 you should not be worrying about every meal you eat, you should be enjoying life and yeah- don't stuff crap down your throat- but at 13 he already isn't. He said he would eat what his father cooked at dinner(spaghetti dinner) the other stuff is mainly from the cafeteria, hell he is eating WAY better than most kids his age. I don't think it underminds him to start improving his diet, but it isn't necessary for him to limit himself at this age either!

My god, at 13 I ate like I had Prader-Willi syndrome! (granted I couldn't gain a pound if I had tried) but that's beside the point. It didn't make me any worse for wear either.

At 13 you should be enjoying your life, not worrying about counting calories or doing exercises to keep the fat off. It's as simple as be conscious of what you eat, don't eat a lot of crap, and stay active.

*ugh*

I agree, I think his diet will work just fine for him. He is keeping it pretty clean.

You DO NOT need a perfect diet to lose weight.

ok thank you everyone for the help! If anyone has any suggestions on what i should change in my diet please post them! I also do try to eat as cleanly as possible! thanks again in advanced!
