Is this a problem?

I've been on a long cut and I have a high metabolism. I eat 3700 cals/day. I'm somewhere around 10-11% body fat and I currently weigh 186.6.

For the past several weeks I've been losing 1 lb a week (which I consider perfect) then this week isn't even over yet and I've lost almost 2 1/2 lbs. Should I worry about it if it is just one week losing this much? I really don't want to lose any hard earned muscle mass. Come to think of it, I noticed earlier in the week that I was peeing like crazy. Is it possible that I was carrying that much water at this low of a bf%?

You are losing that amount of weight eating that many calories daily?

How much damn exercise are you doing?

Basal metabolisms across populations don't fluctuate that much.

Mine does apparently.

I do 4 weightlifting sessions and 3 60 minute cardio sessions per week. My weight stays relatively static when I eat around 4000 cals.

I used to have a terrible diet and eat as much as I possibly could (which was a lot) of fast food, pizza etc and only reached about 225 lbs at 6'1

I remember as a teenager trying to bulk I would eat to the point I was in pain and couldn't get higher than 160 LOL

I've been doing this a long time and I've never seen someone of normal weight steadily lose eating 4000 calories. In fact, it seems like an impossibility to me, unless your math is wrong on your intake.

I mean, off the top of my head, the biggest spectrum I've seen in research and sample populations is something like a 15% variance in BMR.

Not saying you're lying, certainly not.

Just very surprised.

I've seen things that can't be explained before though. And in those cases, I say it's MAGIC!

:)

Lucky you.

Actually, believe it or not, I think it kind of sucks. I wish I could just eat 3000 calories and bulk. It would make day trips a lot easier

I'm the most meticulous person I know when it comes to counting calories. I weigh or measure everything I ingest...down to 1/100 of an ounce

See for yourself:

I think that would kind of suck too. Bulking with 3400 cals was just enough for me, I can't imagine what you have to eat to bulk if you are cutting at 3700. Holy crap...

hey gooch!

you are a skinny lil puke like me now! hahahaha

I was worried about my loss, but hey, this past week I have gained. I'm not nearly as diligent tracking my intake, but I know my crap food meter is reading a bit higher.

stay cool man--- change up the content of your calories some. I think our body gets tired of the same thing all the time. I switched my whole wheat pita in for whole grain. I have also incorporated some apple pie verses brownies for my sweet. In my chillen oatbars I am now using cranberrys verses raisins. I changed the brand of my protein shake too. and I started using milk to make is verses water.

change some stuff up, and your body may absorb it better.

I would be the good-year blimp consuming those calorie stats over time.

The michelin man would be a midget next to me.

For petes sakes, that alot of C on a cut, Gooch-Man ;)

Good Grief. :)

I always steer the conversation off course when I mention my caloric intake;)

Does anyone else have any thoughts about this drop in weight this week? I do this sometimes, I'll be on an even keel, then my weight loss accelerates for no apparent reason and I up my calories just 300 cals and I'll maintain or even gain for a couple weeks.

I'm not losing strength..now some of my lifts have stagnated a little, but I'm still making modest gains in some

.....or is my case just unchartered territory?

I wouldn't worry about the 2 1/2 pound loss this week. Weight loss can be strange, sometimes no loss for a week, sometimes a couple weeks of regular loss, and then one week you lose 2-3 pounds. As long as you are keeping strong with your nutrition needs, and lifting heavy, it seems perfectly safe.

I'd worry little as well.

If it becomes a trend though, then I'd start throwing up some red flags.

For god's sake.... kill that enormous tape worm you have lodged in your gut... eating all those cals!

I do cardio primarily for heart health. I have a bad family history. I tried cutting down my cardio to 30 minute sessions and my bp started creeping up.

Also I simply feel better doing the cardio. Since starting it I rarely get sick, I have more energy, better sense of well being etc

And really, I'm not sure if I'll ever do a true bulk again. The only way I can get enough calories is to eat unhealthy foods which tend to be much more calorie dense. I'm cool with being relatively slender and cut up (what the hell I'm still slightly overweight by BMI standards LOL)

Ya sure it wasn't simply an acute response with the BP increase. Maintaining cardiovascular health doesn't take much. For someone in your shoes, I'm in similar, a couple of moderate intensity, short duration sessions each week usually does the trick. This way you aren't creating a huge *caloric bank* but still maintaining CV conditioning.

And what's your weight training look like?

dang dude! that is a pile of food eh!

Flax seed? why not?

you should have a big ol wide face from the jaw muscles you are developing--- you are a chewer!! hahhaahaha

I had a pretty wide face when I weighed 225 LOL

I have a very simple, all compound lift regimen

A:
Squat
Bench
Row

B:
Deadlift
Pull up
Military Press

OK- because I like you, and I actually do have a brain let me say again-

I think your body may be bored. You are a machine! NO! You are not. But you eat the same thing all the time. Change it up some. I also think your fat content is a bit low for the cardio you are doing, so you must be burning up some of that 'hard earned' muscle.

BUT- to answer you initial question, from my perspective- Hell yes it's a problem. You are ANAL TO THE MAX! gahagahagahga

affectionately,
:)
