am i delusional or is pork loin hindering my weight loss..i mean it's meat..zero carbs..just putting pepper on it. seems like i'm losing better when eating chicken breast..or beef..
thanx:sifone:

I happily grilled pork loin steak throughout my weight loss project and lost weight. Naturally I ate from other protein sources too - poultry, fish, legumes (etc - no beef and very little lamb).

I think that the thing is that you need to trim off the fat and like everything it comes down to calories so portion size is important too.

thanx for the reply, cuz i love the stuff and it's a piece of meat that is hard not ruin, for me that is. not the mention at 1.99 a pound you can't beat that..:sifone:

No one food will "make you fat".

If you look at the nutritional value for pork loin, it's a very healthy way to get in some good quality protein. Of course, as with anything, you can overeat even healthy foods.

The thing that might make it *appear* to be hindering your weight loss is that pork as a whole tends to have a LOT more sodium than other lean meats. 4oz of pork loin has about 550mg of sodium, whereas 4oz of chicken breast has around 180mg of sodium. So on the days you eat pork, you may be retaining a little more fluid to balance out the sodium intake.

Good point Kara - I tend to monitor my sodium quite regularly and stick to a pretty repetitive diet the rest of the time - so my sodium never tends to get high (or at least that is the theory - I did have a slip-up with that in the winter with low calorie soup of all things - those darned stock cubes...!!!) If your sodium is set to stay under say 2,500 you should be ok. If the rest of your diet takes it over - you could run into problems.
