Is my goal realistic?

I'm currently 5'5, 21 years old, and weighing in at 165 lbs. I would KILL to be 125 lbs and I have an occasion on Aug 18th that I'd like to get in shape for. So I have 40 lbs to lose and exactly 4 months do it. Is this a realistic goal ? :)

Any tips/advice/experiences would be very helpful.

PS - if it makes a difference.. like 80% of my fat is in my belly!! ugh that area is just so stubborn. my legs and arms could spare some fat too.. but they're nothing compared to the belly. :(

Hiya, I defiantly think it's do-able, hard work, but do-able!

I’m in almost exactly the same situation as you; my target is 40lbs by 1st Sept. I'm 5'6'' 20 years old and currently 158lbs. I really want to be 120lbs! I've personally known 2 people who have lost around this amount in this amount of time - which is reassuring!

If you're interested in someone to lose weight with, keep motivated etc, let me know!

as has been said here quite often.. 1 percent of your body weight is a reasonable goal to shoot for... If you expect the weight to stay off and are taking a sensible approach..

I woulnd't focus on getting to a specific number becuase the number on the scale is just a number - only yuou and your doctor will ever know what it is -work on getting into shape and go by how your clothes fit and what you see and forget what's on the scale.

Spend some time reading the stickied threads around the foru -there's a lot of information to get you started on your way - and if you hate to diet that's a good thing -diets don't work long term -go for a lifestyle change..

Hello,
It will work out if you keep yourself on the right track
I wondered away when I decided to live a healtier life which was last year. I went from 170 to 140ish and it felt great. My foolish self started eating the "unhealthy" stuff and I gained some. I did a lot of wrongs during my time of dieting. I'd eat a lot then not eat so much and this happened for months. Until now -pats back- I'm appy to say it's been 2 weeks and 4 days!
You see if I can do it, you can as well! Prove to us not only us but mainly yourself that you'll do it. If you don't who will? right

Don't be too hard on yourself by having a hard-fast deadline for your weight loss. If you work at changing your lifestyle by making healthier food choices, cutting some of the unnecessary calories out of your diet, and increasing your calorie expenditure with physical activity, you WILL reach a healthy weight.

It's important to make small gradual changes that you can maintain long-term. Otherwise, you get caught up in a quick-fix weight loss method that promises quick results, but then leaves you worse-off in the end when you gain it all back plus some.

Keep in mind that even if you lose just 20 pounds by your occasion in August you will already feel better both physically and mentally, which will make you look better. KWIM? We all look better when we feel better and 20 pounds would definitely be something to be proud of.

If you have any nutrition-related questions, I'd be happy to help.

How long did i take you to get from 170 to 140 out of curiosity??
THNX. :)

I personally don't think its realistic to expect your body to lose 2.5 lbs each week, especially as you get closer to your goal. You may be setting yourself up for dissapointment.
