Is jogging harmful?

I read couple articles regarding 'jogging' exercise, issued in local newspaper this week.

i believe it keep confusing people even though fact is there. It claims that jogging can give you severe problems especially your leg joint and can bring to death???

I'm not sure how far this is true but i think it is isolated case and may be an excuse not to jog. I myself don't like jogging but this kinda report will make everyone confuse.

I think the best exercise is walking briskly or swimming. May you all have different view of jogging exercise to clarify the good and the bad...

is good will slash the bad?? let's vote :action5:

Nothing wrong with jogging. People who drop dead while exercising usually have underlying undiagnosed heart conditions.
Also, if you're severely overweight, starting out with an all out jog or run might not be the best idea if you've been inactive for a long time. That's simply because your joints aren't used to the stress.

Humans have been running to catch prey or to avoid being prey for 2.5 million years. I think running is generally safe for most people, barring some uncommon health issues.

so we come to puzzle...which one burn more fat..for 1 man case

when you jogging...you tired / exhausted fast....short period of time..then you stop..

when you walking...less tired...you keep walking and walking...take longer time...before you stop

Questions is...which one is more efficient in burning fat...

in my opinion...take cooking meat as metaphor..

apply big fire...only cooked outside ...not inside

but small fire will cook in and out well...what you guys think??

I think jogging is fine.

But its the same with anything: moderation and that anything has the potential to go wrong: you can choke to death on a chicken bone, become food poisoned by a steak or get ecoli from an unclean plate. And thats just food, you can trip on a carpet and break your neck, slide on laminate and break your back, you can become blind by accidentally poking out your eye whilst doing needle work.
This does not mean you should never eat anything, never carpet or laminate your floors or never take up sewing. Its just a matter of common sense. Your just as likely to become injured running as with any other sport/exercise regime.

I didn't catch why the joggers would die from jogging, as Karky said if you have an underlying heart condition it could become a risk, but so could a stressful job or swimming at a beach resort.

As for joint pain, I think that over time (like decades) you could get joint pain from jogging, but thats because its a fairly high impact sport- so this means you need to protect yourself more: wear protective footware: cushioned trainers which you change for a new pair every 500 miles or 6 months to ensure the cushioning is still in good order. You take good oils with your meals such as omega 3 oils to help your joints reapir themselves and you make sure you watch your nutrition to ensure your body is able to repair itself in good speed.

I doubt many non joggers take as much care, and I doubt that every joint failure patient out there is an ex-jogger. Everyone should be watching their nutrition and taking care of their joints, yes high impact exercise can make you that bit more vugnrable but this just means you have to do what many other non joggers don't do: watch what you eat from a nutritional point of view, stretch accordingly and keep your kit up to date.

For me, jogging is not harmful as long as you're doing it properly and is wearing the proper attire such as rubber shoes that are really for jogging. When one is exhausted already in jogging, then one has to stop. As simple as that. :)

Jogging

I think that you have to look at how much you are jogging, anything in excess can be harmfull, jogging included.
I don't think that jogging itself is harmfull just how you use it.
Exercise is like your diet, it needs to be balanced and too much of one activity can become negative.

A couple of tips for keeping jogging safe:
When possible allways run on grass as this will take out alot of the impact which is associated with anything negative about jogging.
Try to allways lland on your heel and leave the floor on your toe, make the contact with the floor as smooth as possible.

Keep it varied, keep it fun and keep at it.

There isn't an endurance exercise you can't say this about.

So in your second post, Zick. You asked what is better for burning fat?

I'll make this quick without getting too technical.

When you run or exercise in general, your body uses certain things as fuel depending on the intensity. While sprinting balls your body uses the "phosphagen system" which produces lactic acid (the stuff that makes your muscles feel spent). In other words the body breaks down carbs to produce (ATP) the energy needed to the sprintage.

When you run a nice smooth aerobic pace (if you were running w/ a bud, you both would be able to talk to each other without losing your breath) then your body is using the "oxydative system". Initial here your body uses glucose (sugars) and such to produce (ATP) energy but soon starts using fatty acids to support you long term aerobic jog.

Okay, okay so that wasn't so short. In summary. Easy pace for long period is usually the best way to whoop up on a fat body.

As with everything though there are exceptions.....for another time though.

remember,

think good. eat right. work hard.

I totally agree with BrianCollins here. Just like what was said "easy pace for long period is usually the best way to whoop up on a fat body." --- just enjoy jogging; don't think of it such a thing like a "work." It should be fun.
