Is it supposed to be this difficult?

Didn't know where to post this so I hope here is ok.

Ok, I exercise and I love it and I take my vitamins and eat healthy (but I am not going deny myself a slice of NY pizza or a Chocolate covered cherry when I really need one). I look pretty good, could stand to lose a few more pounds, but I feel like I would be miserable if I had to live for those last 7 pound for the rest of my life (the hardest ones to take off and keep off).

I see folks counting calories eaten and burned, and trying to make all the numbers work. I know you have to burn more than you eat, but surely all the healthy-weighted folks out there are not using a calculator every time they eat an M&M or walk up a flight of stairs.

I just feel like healthy living should take care of all this and it shouldn't matter whether I burn 354 or only 297 calories on the treadmill. Yet it doesn't seem to.

The $64,000 Question -Why doesn't it?

Totally good question. I haven't quite gotten there yet b/c i'm still in the process of loosing all of the stuff i can and haven't hit a plateau yet. I think I agree with you that if you are eating healthy and getting exercise it, I don't want to believe that you have to make the calories add up. I know i certainly haven't been paying attention to how many calories i burn in exercise... i just try to stay in a range for my food consumption... I don't have an answer for you... but i hope you stick with it and just remember, it may be a life long switch to eat healthy (and NEVER deny yourself a chocolate covered cherry - you need it!) but it is so much better for you than anything else.

well, i've never been a calorie counter, but i do pay attention to the calories burned on the machines, but only to gauge my future workouts. This morning, I upped my workout a little, and i noticed that i went from burning 800 calories in my hour, to 1050 this morning. Has a bit of a feeling of accomplishment, but that's the extent of it. I'm at a bit of a plateau, and a weight problem ... i have about 10 lbs i want to lose, but at the same time, i would like to maintain my weight with added muscle. So, i've given in to not measuring myself in any way shape or form ... just to accept the great feeling of working out and feeling healthy.
