is it possible to lose belly fat without losing mass in other parts?

I play football. Its the offseason, so I am actively working out. I am about 5'7 175 and I am satisfied with this weight. The problem is I have a little pudgy belly that i NEED to get rid of. I dont really care about a six pack I just want to get rid of the pudge, while keeping the mass in the rest of my body. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

what does this mean 'you cant spot reduce'?. so basically you guys are saying jphantom is stuck with this? thats hardly true is it? i have similar problem. is there no particular exercise regime to do which would tone up/ reduce fat in stomach area alone? also is a no/low carb diet essential?

You read that correctly, you cannot "spot reduce!" Your body stored fat where it wants to. You can’t just get rid of belly fat with crunches just like you can’t get rid of arm fat by working your arms. If you want to lose fat, you need to adjust your diet to have a calorie deficit. I have the same problem as you, fat in my belly plus on my “handles.”

No or Low carb diet is not essential, but it has worked for me to lose fat. All you need to do is to reduce your calorie intake. A good goal is to reduce by 500 cal a day, that will lead to a 1 lb loss each week.

This is a very important point. It's correct that you cannot spot reduce. But with Resistance Training you can maintain your overall weight along with losing fat.

And since you wish to shred off fat from your belly area, you may have to lose some of your weight. But you can always gain it back once you achieve your goal.

im not sure if my current daily food intake would allow for that amount of calorie reduction. a calorie deficit i assume is where you are losing more calories per day in exercise than you are taking in in your diet right? apologies for my ignorance, i have been training competitively within a team environment for 8 years and am only presently looking at ways to improve my individual physique, seperate to collective training.
