Hello Everyone!

I am new to the forum. I got off to a good start in losing weight. I lost 23lbs in two months and five days. I have a big problem now. Although I've added more cardio and strenght training to my routine and eating between 1300 and 1500 calories per day, this morning ,as I weigh myself every Friday morning before I eat, and after I use the toliet, I noticed a weight gain. Oh, the horror! My question is ,if anyone can help me figure this out, how is it possible that I gained 3lbs over a week's time. I've done my research and its not and could not be muscle mass, because its a nutritional fact that lean muscle has to build over a great period of time. ANd, it could not be water weight or bloating from that time of the month. I cannot for the life of me figure out how I gained the 3 lbs.

ANy ideas anyone??

Thanks!

Weight does fluctuate a lot, even if you weigh at the same time every day. 3 lbs is nothing to worry about, plus it could well be muscle mass, even in a shorter amount of time.

My weight fluctuates a lot, sometimes up to 5 lbs from day to day. It doesn't mean that you gained weight as such. Just keep on doing what you are doing and check again next week, you're more than likely to be back on track then.

Oh, and welcome to the forum by the way! :waving:

It's probably just water or any other factor of your body adjusting to extra cardio or strength training. Like San said, dont worry and keep doing what you are doing.

If you havent read it yet, there is a sticky called The Scale Mentality. It's a good read.

I agree...it's not a big deal. Weight can flucuate by several pounds, even on the same day...especially on bathroom scales!

Try not to get hung up on a number...it's more important to focus on your overall health and well being...notice how your clothes are fitting. If you are eating sensibly and getting adequate exercise, those 3 pounds were probably just a fluke and the scale will be showing a loss in no time!

Welcome to the forums and good luck!

I totally agree with everyone on this. Your weight will definitely fluctuate on a daily basis. What usually happens with me is I will put on 2 lbs. in a day and then the next day I will drop about 3.5 lbs or so. That's why people say not to weigh yourself everyday typically but I do anyways because of the Wii fit forcing me too :iagree:

Think about it this way. If you were really going to gain 3 lbs in a week you would need to eat 10,500 more calories than your body needs in that particular week...

approx 3500 calories in 1 pound.

I agree with the others- 3 lbs is nothing. Even if it's not "that time of the month" I wouldn't rule out hormonal crap either. My weight loss tends to go like this: drop 2 lbs one week, then gain 4 ozs per day for about 3 days, stay steady for a few days, then drop another 2 lbs the next week. So every 2nd week I see weight loss, but the weeks in between nothing (or even a gain). This is a definite pattern I've noticed over 2 months. I'm not too concerned about the scale on a daily basis, because it fluctuates so much and is not a reflection of reality.

frustrating mystery pounds!!

Hello..also new to forum ..I wouldn't worry about the 3 lbs..my weight ...fluctuates like that ofter...sometimes 3-5 lbs diff in couple of days and I know its not gain or loss that fast but probably just simple body/muscle fluctuations for lack of proper medical terminology--sounds like you are seriously working on your weight/body, so I wouldnt let the scale stress you out ..good luck and hope to talk to you again:cheers2:

Whgts51- yes, I am seriously working on getting off the pounds. My family history consists of hypertension and diabetes. And, I don't want any disease plaquing my body. Besides, once I learned the reality of how much I was really eating in a day, I was completely ashamed of myself. I was eating maybe 4, 000 calories a day.. mostly fast foods. A typical day would start off with McDonald's breakfast, 1 sausage and egg mcmuffin, 1 hashbrown, small orange juice and sometimes, the cinnonmin(?) roll. Lunch, would be maybe a three piece extra crispy meal from KFC and dinner I would probably have the fish and chicken platter at Captain D's. But, if I cooked, dinner during the week, it would be maybe...spaggetti, or a casserol or a meatloaf or something like that. And, I would have a big helping. Once, I discovered that I was eating like that, it was no wonder why I packed on all those pounds from what my baby sister calls "the good life." I no longer want this so called "good life." If I continued to fool around with the "good life," I'd for sure have no life. And, besides, after evaulating myself, I realized I was a glutton. And, we all know that gluttony is one of the seven most deadliest sins. I cannot and will not go on defiling my body the way I have been. Its my body and I will respect it. I can say that I learned something about myself and that is, I am not addicted to food. I have turned away pizza, family bar-be-ques and huge Sunday dinners. I live in the South and we are big on our huge Sunday dinners and huge gatherings for cookouts and fish frys (fries). Members of my family knows my goals and still insist on tempting me especially with all the desserts: strawberry cheesecakes, caramel and chocolate cheesecakes, devil foods cakes, red velvet cakes, lemon icebox cakes, banana puddings. Ok, I'm getting carried away, but you can get the picture right. But, still I hold firm and just like I would say no if someone asked me to do drugs, I always politely say, "no, I'd rather not have any of that right now." or "I'll have a fork of that pie." Its a psychological thing, I would say.

Wow, I didn't know I was going to say all that. Yes, I hope we do get to talk more.:blush5:
