Is going to the gym a necessity?

I am trying to bulk up right, I have in my basement a straight bar and a pile of weight plates in pairs (5 lbs, 10 lbs, 20 lbs, 25 lbs, 40 lbs) and pairs of dumbells (15 lbs, 20 lbs, 25, lbs, 30 lbs) and a weight bench...and I am planning to buy a curl bar sometime soon. My question is do I have enough to work with?

I know this isnt as good as going to the gym but I got all this for CHEAP price (except the weight bench).

No need for a gym, you can do almost everything with what you have.

The only thing you can't do is back squats, but you can perfect front squats, barbell hack squats, lunges, etc...

and you might want to buy a pullup bar, but you should be fine

I agree with AJP, a gym is not a necessity if you have the equipment at home. Also, I don't see a need for a curl bar, I think a stability ball would be a better investment. JMO. Good luck with your goals

If my heaviest dumbells were 30 lbs, I would go to the gym anyway. For example, I shoulder press 90 lb d/bs at 4 clean reps.

IMO you should spend the money on the gym membership. Maybe you should say youre taking online classes or something to get a student membership.

i have everything i need at home getting a squat rack soon aswell. only problem is i dont have a spotter at the moment so i have to limit the weight i lift for safety reasons

Well not everyones a f'n beast lol. If they are the old school dumbells that use plates, you can just buy more weight as you see fit. This should definitely last you for a long while.

Sounds like you have a good supply of weights. You should be able to get as good as a workout with these, as if in a gym. Just with some small exceptions.

I prefer going to the gym if I have time, I don't know why, but I'm more confident while at the gym.

You don't NEED to do db shoulder presses though. There is the barbell for push presses, miltary, etc....

I go to the gym for the glute ham raise machine and the reverse hyper machine, as well as a pull up bar. These are not NEEDED but they do help.

Also I got all of this under $250.00 (Canadian). Sounds good to hear you guys say that I have enough...How much would a pull-up bar go for?

Keep in mind that I am a beginner, when or if I get to the point where I need heavier dumbells I'll just buy them but for now I feel that I am set with the pounds.

Pull-up bar is around 20 bucks (U.S. dollar though), there are different types and prices obviously

i know! sell all your weights. Then use the money to get membership at a gym! then you're set

This is the most worthless advice that could be given and coming from you, I'm not surprised.
