Is eating at night time bad?

Oh hell yes, I've often been hungry during my year long weight loss journey. I have a fast metabolism and I've always eaten a lot, sometimes just cuz I like to eat but often because I am truly hungry. I find I often tend to be hungry unless I'm eating right at maintenance (for me around 2000 calories w/out exercise). So I've found the only way I'll lose weight is to go a little hungry (though a few weeks ago I ate really low carb for a week and it really curbed my usual hunger!). But I often feel hungry at 1800-1900 calories in a day so its just something I need to deal with to get the weight off (and make up for my weekly screw ups). But on average my weekly calorie deficit is not so large that it could be said that I am hungry because I am under-eating (I wish ha ha). I suppose I should be more clear, I think its sometimes needed to get the weight off if you have a large appetite or fast metabolism, but I think its totally dumb to cut the calories so deep that the resulting hunger is an actual sign and symptom of starvation.

Alright so THEORETICALLY, if I was aiming for around 2100 calories a day, I can eat all 2100 in one big meal in the morning OR before I sleep and it will still have the same effect as if I spread that 2100 out into seperate meals? I won't necessarily gain extra fat by doing this? Sorry if I'm being so fussy about this question but I've been pretty much bred to believe that eating before sleeping is a no-no (which is why I haven't taken a daytime nap in YEARS! In fact, I never even lie down to watch tv, rather I sit up instead!) and other such things like physical activity right after when you eat is better than if you waited 5 hours later (in terms of losing fat, for example my friend told me that if you waited longer after you eat your body will just store that extra energy as fat rather than burn it right away for physical activity).

aahhh I cant stop night eating

Well the title says it all, I can not for the life of me stop stuffing my face before I go to bed. My wife calls it "Grazing" which is a good way to describe it. Eat some of this some of that and a lot of this...I do weight watchers unofficially and like the freedom it has and like the idea that it is a change of life...not a "diet". If I could conquer my night eating I could drop the other 55lbs i need to make my goal. So if anybody has input on this that would be great. Oh and please dont say just go to bed, because it doesnt work I toss and turn thinking about food.
thanks, matt

threads merged,,, read backwards crowbar, you'll find what you're looking for probably -but long story short - doesn't matter when you eat - it's total calories.. save some for the night time,..

Now that I think about it, doesn't your metabolism slow by a great deal when you sleep?

I leave enough calories to have a meal everynight before bed,I just like to eat at night.

Ive been on a diet over 4 months now and one of the main reasons I dont cheat is making sure not to overdo the cals in the day purposely so I can have that last meal I would find it hard if I had my last meal at 6 and was not going bed till midnight.

makes sense, I think another factor for me is I work from 4-midnight and am up with my son at 8 everyday. So I am awake a long time and I cant seem to get a good schedule in anymore. Still leaving some food for night consumption without over doing it will be a challenge but i think it is the direction I need to head in.
