Is eating at night time bad?

Breakfast this morning-- orange juice, banana, 2 slices of whole wheat toast with 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 tsp honey. not sure about the calorie or protein or fiber count, but it has to be better than a piece of toast with butter sub. I feel so full.
if you sign up for an acccount at you can record your food for the day and it wilkeep track of protein/fiber/sodium/etc...

what do you do to stop your night urges?

during the late evening or night when im awake i get really hungry ut i know if i eat i'll screw up. what do you do to prevent this?

thanks

have enough calories left in your day so that you can have somethig to eat...
have snacks in the house that won't set you back too far...
get a hobby that keeps you occupied...

This was a tough one.

At the beginning, I solved a lot of the problem by going to sleep earlier (I used to be up til 1 and 2 in the morning, now I get sleepy as soon as 10pm hits).

Also, try drinking lots of water. As mal suggested, doing a hobby (such as studying!) can help control those urges.

Another idea is to move your workout sessions into the night. You will be busy working out, you won't have time to eat :p

I got to sleep---but if I'm really legitimately hungry (not bored) I'll have a little something.

try chewing gum.it works for me. i usually have 1 or 2 peice's thru out the day or night. someone recently was trying to tell me that it was bad cause it tricks your stomach or something lol but i havent felt like that all. and sometimes it beats just drinking water to get full or whatever.

I need help with this too I try gum but i always end up biting the inside of my lips when i chew for too long-I do the water thing but then i have to wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and sleep is a sacred thing to me because i have to get up in the middle of the night with at least one child.
The only thing that works for me is to not have any temptation foods in the house.

If it's cravings plus hunger, eat something thats good for you and make sure you have enough calories left for it.

Or, drink a glass of water to feel full and then brush your teeth. You aint gonna want to eat anything after that!

I simply spread my calories out over the day, even when dieting, so that I am never hungry to the point where I will have uncontrollable cravings.

I eat 6 meals, and the 6th usually falls between 9-10pm.

Night time... going to bed hungry?

So do all of you go to bed hungry? My stomach is literally on the brink of rumblign when I go to bed. I've always been under the assumption that eating before sleep is bad... can anyone enlighten me on this?

I always have a snack a couple of hours before bed.

eating at night is not bad. as long as you're burning more calories than you're consuming it doesn't matter what time of day it is.

I think the main issue with eating late at night is that a person doesn't need it. You don't feel hungry while you're asleep.

Of course, if you're truly hungry, you can't get to sleep so I can understand a late night meal but snacks are rarely filling to the point of reducing hunger pangs anyhow.

I made a promise in another thread to not eat after nine. Not a huge problem for me - unless I'm tipsy. Then it's a problem. And that's why I need the rule.

there's more than one thread around here about the whole concept of not eating past a certain hour... and I just don't have the patience to find them right now...

What matters is total calorie consumption during the day.. If you are hungry at night, eat something - just have it fit into your daily calorie total...

A heavy meal just before bed wil l probably keep you awake longer than you expect but bedtime snacks are perfectly fine...

When I am dieting I like that feeling. To me it means that I am starting to burn stored calories & I am on track.

I always eat a 100 calorie snack 1 hour prior to bedtime. (I know that the human body averages 100 calories per hour or more) so that 100 will get burned.

I eat a Banana (which has 100 calories) or some type of Fruit like an Medium Apple (85 calories) or 30 grapes (90 calories)

Hope that Helps!

So this brings me to another related question -- Does it matter when you eat? I was told (and it made sense) that you should eat before exercising so that you'll have energy and you can burn off the calories instantly rather than store them. Same with food before sleep, I was told if you sleep the calories would instantly be stored and converted to fat rather than being burned off.

you eat before exercise so you have fuel and energy. I like having something about an hour beforehand.
eating at night, like I said before....it doesn't matter.
