So as i introduced myself in the newbies section, I am a 21 year old female, who in her senior year of college has realized the toll the past 3 and a half years have taken on her weight. I am currently 5'6 at 170 lbs. I was 150 in high school and that is my target weight.
My potential time frame for losing 20 pounds is around 3 months or so...if I were to lose 2 pounds a week. Realisitically it will probably take a little longer than that, but we'll see!
My current diet is often changing. Normally during the week I'll eat pretty healthily: small meals of chicken, fish, frozen veggies and brown rice.
Then on the weekend is when I go bad. With the weekend comes the bars and partying. During football season, almost every saturday was filled with high calorie tailgating food and lotsa beer.
Then, the past two weeks i didn't drink much at all because of exams, but I ate horribly. Almost all my meals were ordered out..and I was constantly snacking while studying.

I've been on break this week for Thanksgiving, and lord did I eat at thanksgiving..I actually don't want to know the amount of calories i consumed haha. But my plan is that when I return to school this weekend, I start anew.

My goals are these:
I'm going to plan out my meals for the week..for the most part..so that I know that I am eating
When I go out to the bars (since I believe drinking is the biggest cause of my weight gain) I'm only going to drink alcohol one night of the week, as opposed to 2 or 3. On the other nights, if I do go out i'll just get a diet coke or water.
When i'm not out i'll try to drink only water, no more soda. I only drink diet anyways, but the sodium in even diet soda is not helping.
I haven't been to the gym in about a month. I do walk everywhere I go, and I take the stairs and all that good stuff...but I used to run about 3 miles a day and now I don't even know if i can haha. At the gym I go to there are plenty of yoga, kickboxing, aerobics, cycling and circuit training classes, so I plan on attending at least 3 of any of those per week, and one on the weekends. I also plan on starting a strength training routine for every other day..as well as making it to the gym between classes to do cardio everday.

I'll use this diary to keep track of what I do during the week. I have a feeling it's gonna be a big help!

I'm about to go grocery shopping and figured I'd just stop in for a second.
I am still at home for thanksgiving break until tomorrow. There are still TONS of thanksgiving leftovers. So i woke up this morning had some coffee..and i just couldn't help but take a piece of cheesecake...darn the temptation! it was so good though. For dinner i just had a small serving of stuffing and some of the leftover turkey.
I am about to go grocery shopping for food to take back to school and I just finished my list. No junk food on it period...since i'm low on cash i won't be buying anything extra, so that is good too. i'm feeling like that's the best first step for getting back in shape so I'm kind of excited.
So i tell my mother that when i come back for christmas i might be a few pounds lighter. she is no help haha..she told me i'll come back the same, and then with all her cooking i'd probably go back in the spring semester a few pounds heavier...she was just joking..but it can be kind of disheartening lol.

So i think my biggest challenge is going to be in a few weeks when i come home for christmas. Hopefully after i get back into the habit of eating healthily again i won't break the habit at christmas.

Anyway, have a great day everyone..i'm gonna go shop healthy!

Well hello i run, Glad you found this website. I think your goals and your timeframe sound very reasonable. Keeping your fridge stocked with healthy food choices is very smart. I try too do that as well but, sometimes it's a battle. I hope to see you reach your goal :)

:waving: Welcome to the forum! :iagree:that your time frame is do-able. You really will have to stick to your plan, though. It is soooo easy to eat too much junk! Likewise, I remember my own years doing the bar scene. I am a musician, and certainly made the rounds. That booze is truly wicked for packing on the pounds, among other things! You are young and having fun, but you are just the right age for deciding to live more healthfully! Be sure to exclude junk food from your fridge & cupboards, or go with portion controlled packs.

I wish you every success on your journey! Keep us posted.

Cheers from :eh:

Thanks so much for your posts sam and abbagirl! I read them right before i left for the gym today..and believe me it really helped knowing i have some support here. I think i did alot better at the gym than i would have had i not logged on here before i went.

So today was my first day back at the gym and while i took it easier than i normally would, i think i did a good job. My workout consisted of this:
1 set of 15 reps each of:
shoulder press
side and front arm raises
leg press
lat pull-down
bicep curls
push-ups
sit-ups

Cardio: 30 minute program on the eliptical

Now that I'm back at school, i can see my eating habits have already begun to improve. i think i was eating nonstop while at home..yikes! haha. Here's what i had today:
bowl of cereal w/milk
medium dunkin donuts iced coffee w/skim and splenda
small chicken sub on wheat at quizno's (mom and sis wanted to stop for lunch on the drive back to school)
large salad w/ romaine lettuce, red peppers, onion, one lite string cheese cut up, and a few spritzes of lite italian dressing
snack of apple slices
4 16 oz bottles of water, one 20 oz flavored sparkling water.

My plan for tomorrow is to eat a decent breakfast and pack a healthy snack..maybe apple slices or dry cereal so that i can go straight to the gym from class without being hungry. I know i've only just begun, but I feel really good about this :)

Welp, today i'm feeling kind of stressed out, since it's so close to the end of the semester things are looking crazy. Tons of projects and work, not to mention trying to find a job for when i graduate oy vay! gotta get that off my chest haha..i just hope the stress doesn't overcome my strive for weight-loss. I really gotta keep control.
Today i went right from class to the gym. I did a 40 minute full-body workout class..it included step and light upper body strength training.
For breakfast I had 3/4 cup of cheerios (yep i actually measured) and skim milk
coffee w/skim and splenda
water
For lunch I had a salad w/ greens, carrots, peppers, onions and 4oz of grilled chicken and some lemon juice sprinkled on top.

I'll probably stop in again later to update..we shall see :)

Here's a quick on just so I can keep track! After I left I had:
4 oz of chicken for dinner
an apple, 3/4 cup dry cereal, special K protein bar
iced chai tea w/ whipped cream to keep me awake
string cheese - 50 cals
small serving of chicken

Yesterday and today have been wayyy stressful..i feel like i haven't stopped for a minute..so i am stopping right now.
Today i did not make it to the gym because there was absolutely noo time. but i have been running around on and off campus all day..so that counts a little.
My meals:
1/2 cup egg beaters
3oz chicken
small choc.chip/apple cookie
special k protein bar
pb and banana sandwich on wheat toast
2 more pieces of wheat w/pb
2 more small cookies

I haven't really thought about what i ate til just now..I had the worst cramps and needed something to make me feel better..why i ate the cookies haha..but I think i felt a little guilty about the cookies so i didn't eat as much good stuff now that i look..now i'm off to another meeting tho, hopefully i can get more on track tomorrow. And i am DEFINITELY going to the gym tomorrow.

Today, I did alot of running around campus, but again too busy to go to the gymm...i think im gonna do push-ups and sit-ups before bed tonight though..
I overslept today, so no breakfast, but for lunch i had
3oz chicken and a coffee
pierogies for dinner
wheat toast with 3oz chicken and bbq sauce
3/4 cup dry cereal

So, the weekend has come and gone, and while i may have slipped a bit, i'm pretty happy with myself. Friday I can't remember exactly my meals...I did have wheat pasta with spaghetti sauce for lunchish. Probably cereal for breakfast.
I went on a trip this weekend, and the host family made us lasagna for dinner too.
Saturday I had a piece of cinnamon bread for breakfast and 2 pieces of pizza for lunch, and a small bag of baked chips for ride home
I also drank on saturday..probably 2 yuenglings, and maybe 5 natty lites. yikes..but i did say my goal was one night a week if any. I turned down the bars and parties during the week, which was good.
So overall, not a healthy weekend. The pizza was because we were doing volunteer work and a nice stranger bought us a few pies of pizza. So for lack of choice and money I went with that.
