Hello Everyone,

My name is Katherine. I actually just started today (my like billionth attempt) to change my life, and to start eating healthy, learn to exercise, drink more water, and just be happy and confident with myself. I am currently (gulp) 299.2 lbs. I know.. almost at that 300lbs mark. Which I will most likely hit within the next few days, seeing as how I'm a girl and all, and I heard my "girly thing" will make my weight fluctuate (water weight) for a bit. I am young.. 17, 18 next month. No birthday cake please! So, I feel that my family is horrible when it comes to supporting people, since my mom and I are the only ones in the house eating right, where as my brother eats 3 pizza pops for lunch... and my dad just constantly complains, that I would look for an online support forum. So this is how I got here. I hope to meet some people who I can really relate to, and get inspired to reach my goals. (I don't have a goal weight yet, cause I don't actually know what I should weigh, I just want to lose weight!) So talk to me, I don't bite, And PLEASE!! Tips?! ;3

Hey hun :)

First of all, congratulations on taking the first step! You're here! Now comes the fun diet part. Blehhh! :p

I'd start a diary on here and log what you would eat in an average day. Be 100% honest. Add up all the calories. Use the resources on this website:
They will help you calculate the calories you should be eating.

Try doing 30 mins of exercise a day. Find a sport/activity that you enjoy and get going! Mine in walking (pretty boring but I lost 30lbs walking around and walking on a treadmill at the gym!) but you can try exercise DVD's or anything else you fancy doing!

Obviously to lose weight you need to cut calories and exercise more. Try starting a food diary and documenting everything you're eating to hold yourself accountable and do weekly weigh ins to note progress!

The stickies (the threads at the tops of the pages in various sections of the thread!) contain a bunch of excellent help for people starting out!

Welcome and good luck!!!!

Thanks for the advice. those calculators scare me. Gah! >.<

I have a book now that I am going to use to track my calorie intake throughout the day, and place some helpful tips in. I will also keep track of my weight in the back. The back, so I don't see it when flipping through to write my calories down... because just seeing my weight will discourage me, and make me feel like it's hopeless.

I like walking, and we have two dogs, so you'd think it'd be easy for me to get my exercise, but I just don't want to go alone. I need to get out of that habit, I need to stop being so shy, and to do things by myself.

My mom and I have recently found a nice cookbook that we would like to try. "Eat Shrink and Be Merry" They have low-fat low-calorie recipes that actually taste good! :D (So we've heard) And I made a nice Apple Cake that tastes good, is filling, and only 150 calories a slice. :D So having the snacks here and there will be a bit less hard on my body!!

Thanks for welcoming me! :D

Welcome Katherine

I know the cookbook. It is a good one. My wife and I use it all the time. I started at 330 pounds and am now 196. It was a journey but with hard work and determination you can do this. This is a great place to start as we are/were all where you are. Good Luck!!

I am in the same boat!

Hi Katherine! I feel like our stories are almost the same... I am 23, I am 5'4 and weigh 230. I have been trying and trying to lose weight but always end up giving up. This time, actually starting today, I am ready to change permanantely. Good luck on you journey, I will be right there with you!!

I was looking at the Before between and after section. It's amazingly inspiring, and I think I might post my pictures, hopefully as of tomorrow if I get the time, and maybe encourage my mom to sign up also. We want to do this, and hope that at least one of us succeeds. I don't think it will be me.. already day one, my calorie intake is at 1740 calories for the day, and I have a HUGE craving for pizza. I need to be stronger.

Hey Katherine!

First of all, sorry my English is not properly used.
I'm half Japanese girl living in Dominican Republic, so, guess what?! :D
English is not my native language.. lol

I'm 23 now.
5'3.
240 pounds.
I have a son.
Before my pregnancy, I was 232. Then, I gained 18 pounds and reached to 250. Cut 10. You did good the math.

My goal is 130.
I go to the gym 5 days a week for around 2 hours. Do 1 hour of cardio, and 1 hour of lifting and crunches. Funny, huh?!

I went to a nutricionist and she set up a diet for me.
It's not that complicated, since I love veggies.
The most difficult part would be avoiding cakes, ice creams, chocolates and soda drink... :(
But I know I'm strong and I know I can do it...! :)
So you can too!

Hug!

Good luck girl!!
You can so do it!
before- after section is really inspirational!
i was nearly your weight when i started.
Its defo worth it! Once you lose the wieight - you might think (as i do) that you should have done it earlier - thats how good it feels!
)

Hi,

I feel great for you as you are stepping your first step to become healthy. First of all, I think you should forget "weight loss" as a start, because your goal is to become "Healthy" and make yourself "Happy"! We are here to support and we would love to share all tips and tricks to help you move forward.....

As a start, don't push yourself too hard, just start from your diet by eating more "veggies/fruits" to replace your junk food... when you can slowly eliminate your junk food, you will see a great improvements and you can totally feel the "freshness" inside you... =)
