Al here from Orlando, originally Scottish but been in Florida for 6 years. I want to lose around 70lbs, according to the experts I should lose more but I haven't been less than 220 since I was 16 years old. Never taken my weight loss seriously before and never joined a forum but I think it might give me a little extra motivation and that can't be bad....

Hello slainte.


Welcome to this forum i can say it is motivating to be on here. Do start a diary on the weightloss forum. Keep a food log of everything you eat. this helps keep you focussed on what you are doing. As someone said recently its actually normal and useful to be a bit obsessed about food when you are tyring to lose weight. You have to be very focussed in order for it to work in the long term.


You also probably need to learn quite a bit about nturition and calories and ther'ss quite a lot of resources around here.


My biggest tips are work on making your diet nutritious and don't try to lose weight too fast. Figure out what you calorie intake should e to maintain yoru current weight then reduce you caloric intake a bit. I don't count calories anymore but that's cause i've got a fair sense of how high in calories things are.


Also get a set of scales. Don't mind if they go up and down radically. Just so long as they keep basically going down. I weight myself in the mornings each day but some people feel better doing it once a week in which case you won't notice the radical ups and downs. The radical ups and downs are usually about water holding.


Drink lots of water. Drink water before each meal and when you get up in teh morning.


If you consume much alcohol, then you will have to cut right back. I'd say stick with no more than one beer a day. there's lots of calories in alcohol too. and the more you drink the more you will wont ot drink as you get a bit drunker and start to care less.
