Intermittent fasting (every other day)

There is a Doctor in Toronto, Dr. Jason Fung. He runs an Intensive Dietary Management clinic at Institute of Kidney Lifescience Technologies. It involves Intermittent Fasting, every other day. On the eat days it seems to be similar to a mix of Paleo and Atkins. It’s all about lowering the insulin levels, which promotes weight loss. On the eat days it’s important to eat enough calories that your body needs, this way your metabolism doesn't slow down. He says that this program is good for treating obesity as well as reversing diabetes.

Here is a link to more than 6 hours of lectures about his findings and the program.

I started my first fast day yesterday, today is my first eat day, so far so good. He seems very knowledgeable and based on his lectures it makes sense. He was recommended by a friend of mine who is a Bio-Chemical Engineer.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this, or have heard anything about something similar?

Thanks

I would see how you could lose weight on this. I am doing the Paleo diet right now and might have to consider this to get a few pounds gone faster.

I haven't done intermittent day fasting, but I do normal IF (I eat in a six hour window, which usually means two times).

I do pretty well with just the two meals and feel fine as long as I don't eat anything starchy. If I do, I usually end up binging. After that it gets a lot harder to control hunger / cravings, but after 2 -3 days of proper eating it's a lot easier.

There is also another similar diet (for a lack of a better word) called JUDDD, which stands for Johnson Up Day Down Day Diet. I don't know the specifics but they seem to be the same concept.
