Intensity of Spin

I had my bf% taken by another trainer at the gym (he has a Futrex), to see how accurate my Omron will be in comparison.

While he was asking the preliminary questions, I told him I was doing Spin several times a week, and some weights. He said that was the equivelant of speed walking. Excuse me?! I don't know what Spin class he went to, but that seems a bit off to me. I know speed walking is different than regular walking, but I consider Spin to be about equal to running.

What do y'all think?

I have taken 1 spin class before and the difference between that and speed walking was like night and day...LOL I am not sure what he is talking about. What was the difference between his testing and your Omron?

My Omron should be in today, so I haven't done it yet.

He did his Futrex and calipers. The calipers came out to be 8% higher than the analyzer did, he said b/c of the activity level. I have only been working out for about 6 weeks, and the paperwork for the Futrex says to take the average activity level for the past 6 months. Well, 6 months ago I was pregnant, so my level appearantly should have been entered differently. I guess that is what made it show less body fat than the calipers.

He also said that the Omron will vary depending on too much or too little water intake. I was under the impression that all analyzers that used BIA would do that, even the more expensive ones.

Besides, I am no longer training full time, and this is mostly for personal use, so I couldn't justify the expense of a Futrex. Also, Nancy and them on the Gym use the Omron, and if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. :p

when i had some PTing a few months ago .. they tested my bf with that Futrex 5000 or wutever .. and we found it's readings were all over the place .. he asked me over the past few months did i ever work out .. and i was like NO .. did the test and boom 32% lol .. then when we changed it and said i worked out 5 days a week ..boom 19% .. so who knows

calipers revealed i was 24 but who knows .. he said its a 10 % range .. so as low as 22 or high as 26 .. he did a 4 point caliper test

He did a 3 point on me. I guess it goes to show that they are an estimate considering how large a role activity level plays in the reading. I would think that it is what it is, regardless of how often you work out, ya know?

I mostly wanted to see if it at least came out similar to my Omron (which came this afternoon). I'm gonna do it tomorrow (under similar circumstances as this morning to minimize the variables). So we'll see.
