Two Great Workouts!

I went to the gym last night after the kids went to bed. I jumped on the treadmill and actually had a really good/hard workout! Let me rephrase; I RAN on the treadmill and actually did well! I use the treadmill all of the time, but rarely run on it. Last night I wanted to do some speed interval training and it was too late to run outside. I did the following:

20 Minutes: 5.0MPH
5 Minutes: 6.0MPH
2 Minutes: 7.0MPH
5 Minute warmup, and 5 Minute cool-down

I just got back from my Thursday-lunch-run. I went for the same run on Tuesday and had to walk a couple of times. The course is literally a barely-there dirt trail in the woods. It's beautiful, but nothing but hills. Very very hard hills. Today, I added another 1/2 mile and ran the WHOLE TIME, even up the steepest hills. I feel so BADD ASS on these trails, too. They are completely covered in tree roots, fallen trees, rocks, etc... and so as you run you are jumping over this and that and it just feels like you are flying through the woods.

Tomorrow is my rest day, and I definitely need it. I think I'm going to try and find a yoga DVD for runners... you think that even exists?

I went online yesterday and purchased a Yoga DVD for Runners. I needed some kind of exercise to combine with weights for my Saturday workout. I'm running 4 days/week so I need to make sure that my body is well stretched and limber so that I can keep up and avoid injury. That would SUCK! I have no idea when it's going to get here, but I'm so excited. I use to be really flexable when I was younger. I did gymnastics. One thing I remember from that time (6th grade-ish) is how in control of my body I felt.

Today is my rest day, whoohooo. I'm taking the wife to see the new X Men movie... so excited! Yay for babysitters :)

Not sure what I'm going to do tomorrow for exercise. My long run is on sunday, so I don't want to do too much cardio. I think I might go to the exercise on demand channel and find a yoga routine on there... then do 30 minutes of free weights.

Weigh-in Day!

I can't believe my last weigh-in was 2 weeks ago!!!! I LIVED without the scale, and it was wonderful. Two weeks ago my weight said 189.6 (and I had seen a low weight of 188 a few days before.) Today, I weighed in at:

184.6

I am thrilled! That is 5 pounds from two weeks ago and 3.4 from my lowest. I've been telling my wife that I felt smaller this week. Even without the scale I could see the weight coming off... in the mirror, the way my clothes fit, etc... it was nice! All of that was justified this morning :)

I will write again tonight to give a workout summary for my week. I'm going for a 3 mile run this afternoon which will complete my first week (of 25) before my 10K race.

Week 1 summary

Ran: 9.75 miles total (2 hill runs, 1 speed run, and 1 long run)
Cross train: Stationary bike for 30 minutes (interval training)
Other: Yoga for Weight-loss, 26 minutes
-----------------------------------------------------

Diet - surprisingly good for the most part. I had some heavy dinners on a couple days, but they were usually followed by a very light day.

Onto week 2!

Week 2 of 25

The plan:

Monday - REST
Tuesday - 2.5 Miles (hills)
Wednesday - Speed work on treadmill
Thursday 2.5 Miles (hills)
Friday - REST
Saturday - Crosstrain and Yoga
Sunday - 3.25 Miles (long run)

Great job on the weight loss DW.

Your running schedule is looking good also.

Even thou I haven't signed up for any and the fact that I have been running for the past couple of months already. I am going to start the c35k program today. Hopefully by the time I finish maybe I'll find a 5k I can run in.

Thanks GGH.

I tried the C25K last summer and it is a really great program. I fell off the wagon about half way through and never made it to the 5K so my advice is to sign up for a 5K now. That way, you have a deadline and something to work towards. You'll be hooked, for sure!

I see that you run now, do you usually run a mile everyday?

typically a mile, but not everyday. didn't run at all last week.

the problem with signing up for a run now is that my schedule is pretty unpredictable and I really can't plan that far out. I'm just going to have to keep my eye out for something that will work for me.

One thing I do to break up the boredom on the treadmill is do interval training. You want to pick 2 speeds, both at a running pace, one slow and one fast. Let's say you pick 5.0MPH and 6.0MPH. Do the slow pace for 5 minutes, the fast pace for 2.5 minutes, repeat until done. This causes you to mentally break a 25 minute workout into smaller groups, which seem more doable.

You can tell from some of my previous posts that I hate the treadmill. I only use it once per week for speed work (it forces me to go fast :)). You sould also do a google search about boredom on the treadmill, I know I've come across several articles.

GREAT JOB on getting to the 20 minute run, that is awesome!

I have been so busy lately! Work is going CRAZY (not so much in a good way) and I don't even have time to look at a computer once I get home... whew...

Running is going very well. I did 2.5 miles on tuesday (hills), then did 30 minutes of speed intervals on the treadmill last night (ended being right under 3 miles). I hit the trials again today and finally get to rest tomorrow :)

Diet seems to be going well, but I'm nervous about the weekend. We are going to a graduation party on Saturday at the cheesecake factory and then going to olive garden on Sunday for Mother's day. Wish me luck!

Week 2 Summary

Miles Run: 13.8
Total Miles to Date: 23.55

Diet was okay this week. It started off really well, but then the weekend came. I usually do well on the weekends, and except for dinner I did. We went to the Cheesecake Factory on Saturday night for a graduation party and then to the Olive Garden on Sunday night for mother's day. I didn't do bad at the cheesecake factory and probably came in under my calories for the day - but what I did eat wasn't very healthy.

I used my meal at Olive Garden as my cheat meal for the week... so. good. :)

Friday was my rest day, and it was much needed. I went for a run with one of my friends on Saturday morning. She is new to running so we took it slow and only went about 2.75 miles. I ran 3.25 miles on Sunday at a pretty moderate pace. The first half nearly killed me, but I got a second wind near the middle and had a nice run back.

Today is my rest day and I can tell that my body needs it... I'm exhausted! I got a yoga dvd (called Yoga for Runners) in the mail on Friday. I was planning on doing it Saturday but after my run the day got away from me! I did watch the dvd and it looks like it will be very helpful. Lots of good exercises and such for the legs, lower back, and hips.

Here's to a GREAT week for both exercise and food! My weigh-in is coming up on Sunday and I would LOVEVEVEVEVE to see the 170's. It's a long shot, but still possible :)

What a crazy week. I actually decided to take a 'personal day' tomorrow and relax at my house without the worries of work or family - I can usually take the stress, but damn... I need a break! haha

I didn't exercise yesterday. I feel bad that I didn't go, but I just didn't have the motivation. ugh. Diet hasn't been so wonderful either. I eat a big dinner, so the next day I will eat really lite ALLL day... until dinner. Wash and repeat. Probably not the best thing to do, but it's the best I got, lol. Things should start to calm down this weekend, and I should be back in my normal routine next week. I crave normalcy!

I weigh-in in three days; very nervous. I may have lost a few pounds... I may have gained... I have NO IDEA! Since I took yesterday off I'm going to try my best to get a few miles in tomorrow. I have a 3 mile run today during lunch - I'm really hoping it goes well; I need something (ANYTHING) to go right this week :)

Hey DW, was wondering where you've been. Sorry for the crappy week. I know how they can be, and even worse how they sneak up on you out of nowhere.

Weigh-in Day!

I weighed in this morning and lost another 2.2 pounds! WHOOHOO. My new weight is:

182.4 LBS

Considering the last two weeks, I am thrilled! :)

Had a rough weekend.

Hurt my ankle on Friday, wife got really sick on Saturday, car got broken into (GPS stolen), Daughter fell down the steps twice, and then my dad had to have emergency surgery for a severe infection that penetrated the bone. I'm tired... but still truckin'

I didn't exercise yesterday or today, trying to take it easy and let me ankle rest. I am going to do my long run tomorrow (3.5 miles) which is usually my rest day.

Tata for now, I have to get some sleep!

hey dwwise,
just thought i should pop in and say hi. i'm so sorry to hear about your terrible weekend! sometimes when things go wrong they just go WRONG! i don't know why life has to be like that sometimes. but glad to hear your still hanging in there...wishing you a good week that is drama free. all the best xoxo:waving:

And I thought I had a rough weekend...

Well your strong, mentally and physically. I believe you'll make your way through it.

Doing great on the weight loss. Got to love it.

Thanks guys! I'm feeling pretty good today, trying to be overly positive and get back into the groove. I've decided to not do my long run today, so instead I am going to do my Yoga for Runners DVD and try to stretch my ankle out. Then, I will try a short run tomorrow afternoon and see how it goes. I don't want to further hurt myself just because I think it feels better.

I thought of something today. When I lost weight before, I got down to 183 pounds before I started re-gaining the weight. Now that I am 182 pounds I am officially the lowest weight I've been since college (160 pounds). I feel really happy with the way I look and I'm not in a huge rush to make the scale drop. I would be happy with 1 pound a week until my 10K... that would put me exactly at 160 pounds. I know that I'm not done yet, but it is so nice to be in a positive place with my self image :)
