Insanity: sick of the cycle

Hi everyone:

I recently decided that I'm tired of not feeling good and not feeling good about myself. I'm approaching 30 and if my habits don't change now, they never will. My problem is consitency. I do soooo well for a week or two and then I eat ONE THING bad and I beat myself up for it. The beating usually involves more food. I'm also lazy, so I'm trying to find some new FUN activities to do that involve moving. ALSO, they need to be either inside or in a pool. It is currently between 100 and 105 in Louisiana right now, not to mention the humidity. In the fall I want to start jogging. I found an elliptical machine that I'm thinking of purchasing so I can put it in front of the TV. At least then I won't be sitting in the recliner.

My ultimate goal is to lose 30 pounds. My immediate goal is to just stick with good nutrition and exercise. I think with good nutrition and moving more, the weight will come off by itself. I wish I could enjoy food without thinking I have to eat all of it to be happy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading!

I can't even imagine. It's absolutely miserable where I am right now and it's only 90...the humidity is really high though. I've been sitting here sweating for like 2 hours :ack2: and I haven't done a thing..hahaha.

Anyways, I just wanted to say Hi and welcome to the forum. :waving:

It's about that hot here in Texas, too. I can't stand it. But then, I'm originally from Michigan so I can't stand anything higher than 80. LOL!

"I recently decided that I'm tired of not feeling good and not feeling good about myself."

Same here. Enough's enough. I'm sick of the ever increasing size of my wardrobe (in inches, not quantity), and I'm not getting any younger. I'm 35 now. Everyone says it gets harder the longer you wait, and I'd rather have a healthy, happy second half of my life than a continuance of the fat, tired, and miserable one. I'm glad to see you've made such a great decision, too!

As for suggestions, I think the best one I can think of is start small. Do what you can, but don't push yourself too hard on the first day. If you set a small goal and easily meet it, increase it a little bit the next day. Nothing is worse (in my opinion) than pushing yourself so hard that you can barely move the next day, because then you don't feel like getting any exercise at all. Just keep increasing day by day until you find the sweet spot. Then increase it little by little every week. If you take it nice and slow, you'll be much more likely to stick to it. It's hard in an age when everything is drive-through and instant gratification, but know that every day you are investing in a happier, healthier future.

The only other suggestion I could make - and probably the best thing most people could do - is drink as much water as you can, especially if you don't drink much right now. Doing nothing other than dropping the flavorful drinks for water has helped me shed pounds; adding in some exercise and healthier eating habits is just going to make it that much better. There are so many benefits to drinking water, it's amazing so few people don't.

Anyway, I wish you the best for the new future you are creating for yourself. God bless!

Hi! I live in Louisiana too, and I have to agree it is INSANELY hot and humid here right now, even for us!! The only time I step outside these days is a short walk from Air Conditioned Point A to Air Conditioned Point B, lol. I bought an elliptical a couple of years ago and it's the best thing I could have ever done. I have it parked in my computer room and I either listen to music or watch dvds of my favorite tv shows. (I want to get cable in there though!) I also have dumbbells and a weight bench.

Just wanted to stop by and say hi! Good luck!

P.S. I forgot I wanted to say that I used to have the same problem where I would have slip-ups and just want to give up, but I found what's helped me get past it is just to realize I am not perfect and that mistakes will happen. I am making a lifestyle change, this is not a temporary thing where I have to hurry up and get the weight off. I have a lot to lose this time around so it helped to just make this understanding with myself
