in order to lose weight must i lose muscle?

I'm a skinny dude with a huge butt. I'm also pretty toned and built everywhere ...again with exception of my butt. If i'd like to lose weight around that region through diet and exercise, would I have to start losing muscle before being able to lose weight there? stop lifting heavy weights, using my glute muscles, etc.?

To be honest, everytime I have cut fat in the past, the butt is normally the first place you lose, and my girlfriend gets a little dissapointed with that as she is a butt girl ha!

But you do not have to lose muscle when losing fat, provided you are taking in the right amout of calories for your composition and that you continue to lift weights! DO NOT stop lifting as this is the main cause for muscle loss when dieting. Training will stimulate your muscles and make sure you keep that hard earned mass.

Focusing on squats and some glute work will help to 'tone' your butt, but honestly, all that firming and such will not do anything unless you just lose the fat.

It all melts off proportionally..no spot reduction I am afraid..although where it accumulates the most is where you will more than likely lose the most.

Let me know if you have any other questions and id be happy to help out.
