In need of help..

So, I don't really know where to start.
I want to lose 40lbs for right now, but it seems like it's so hard with school and living with my mother.
See...she is the one that buys the food and I have no money of my own(no job, looking though.:( ) so I usually have no way of buying the right kinds of food. She only buys junk.
Should I start with losing the soda? Will that help at all? I'm saving up money to buy a treadmill too. I love them and would love to have one of my own. Plus, I HATE running/walking outside. I'm bigger chested and I've been called things and asked "how much" at corners when trying to cross the street. I just don't like it and I feel so awful.
So anyways yeah, letting go of the soda and saving my money for a treadmill.
So I guess I lied...I DO have money, but not much and most is going to gas and the treadmill...so..yeah.:(
And last night my rat died. I loved him so much and I'm grieving like mad. Does anyone know how I can stop these cravings I keep getting for junk food? I know it's because I'm sad...but I don't want that to affect my weight..

Here is a before picture if that means anything.

Dropping soda, especially if you drink it often, will make a big difference. When I first lost weight I wasn't trying, I just stopped drinking soda.

Drink water instead and that alone could make a difference. You do need to get your diet in check though. Have you tried asking your mom to buy food for you? Cereal with lowfat milk, yogurt, fruit, veggies, chicken. All good stuff you can eat that aren't unreasonable requests. Ask to cook wtih your mom maybe and then you control your own portions and calories.

Good luck. Its a shame people in your neighborhood are so rude that you can't feel comfortable just exercising outside.

Thanks for replying.:)
Yeah, some people are just rude and awful.
Thanks for the advice. I will see about cooking with my mom.

Yes you should cut out the soda because of all the calories you're consuming without realizing it. And definitely talk to your mom about buying some better food. More often than not, they'll be thrilled to help out in any way possible!

A side effect of me losing weight is that my family members have shaved off a few pounds already too. Whether it's intentional or not, I don't know. But our prepared meals are healthier. I don't remember the last time we had fried chicken for dinner, it's always broiled now. :)

I've started out by cutting soda too, it really is one of the easiest ways to cut back on calories. That and switching to a lower-fat milk (we used to drink whole milk, now we drink 1%--maybe someday I can convince my fiance to switch to skim) have helped the way I feel a lot.

It depends, but it can make a huge difference. My brother (who was about 260lbs at the time) lost about 25-30lbs. after stopping soda for just two months. He has since started drinking soda again, but that just goes to show you what a big difference it can make. Plus it will make you feel healthier.

Good luck to you :)

I really noticed a drop in weight when I cut out soda as well.

I will urge you to get a good sports bra that flattens you pretty well, and then go running (or walking, if that is what you prefer) in the very early a.m. or later in the evening - when it is dark. I used to be paranoid about people seeing me run when I was a little bigger, so I would go at times when no one was around around 5 a.m. or earlier. Now I always run at that time because I love it... it is my only alone/quiet time. Just remember to bring pepper spray and/or your cell phone for protection if you live in a sketchy area.

You will find that with increased exercise, your craving for junk will probably go away. I always crave healthier foods when I am working out more.

Good luck!

Also, maybe you could go to the store with your mom and help pick out food. Or she can give you money out of the grocery money to go buy your own healthy food.

It doesnt seem like most parents would get mad or say no if their child wanted to eat healthier.

Bunny, First I agree - drop the sodas - including diet soda, which is even worse for you than regular soda. Second - explain to your mother what your goals are about losing weight. Tell her that you would like to help out with the grocery shopping and plan your meals ahead of time to show her how serious you are.

Some advice on losing weight. First off - don't try to lose 40 lbs in a week or some other rediculous time frame. A healthy weight loss is about 2-3 lbs per week. Set that as your goal. Second - forget the treadmill. Opt instead for a gym membership. It has a wider variety of machines. And if you buy a treadmill - I guarantee that within a month you'll be so bored with it you'll hardly ever use it after that.
