In need of help, advice and guidence

Just joined the site. I am a 55 man who used to be very fit. I was very active, played semi-pro football and the neighborhood bar softball team. Around the age of 40, I just quit everything....got lazy you might say. I just had some major surgery and it has me wondering about things and wanting to change my lifestyle. Working in a steel mill and rotating shifts also take a lot out of you. I just want to come home and do nothing. I am going to join a gym and I would like to know where to start...how to start...what would be a good regiment for starting all over again? I do smoke and I intend on quiting.

Try looking at sixpackshortcuts on Youtube for exercises that may fit what you're looking for (strength, cardio, some body part...) I find some of them give me quite a workout if applied correctly.

Good for you!! I'm so glad you are being pro active in getting back in shape. Working out will get you to where you want to be but diet is also a HUGE factor. How is your diet? you can go to , it's good tool to use to figure out how many calories, carbs, proteins and fats that you need to be consuming and its a good way to track everything. Also drink lots and lots of water. Please keep us posted!

* had part of my large intestine removed Nov. 28th due to a large polyup being found during a routine colonoscopy. It turned out to be negative for cancer. I am sowly going to work back into this...it has healed up but I haven't done any kind of workout in 15 years at least.

Do you have any issues from the surgery that would keep you from working out? Just drove from Pitt to Cincy on the day after Christmas, lived there for 10 years.
