In home machine

Hey Guys

Is there an in home machine sold that will work out every body part?

I'm not looking to be a body builder but a sufficent amount of muscle would be nice.

Any other reccomendations as to what machines I should buy that dont take up to much space, and that are maybe collapsible?

Also any good videos out there into getting into shape with and without a machine?

Last q, Is it possible to get complete body muscle definition without the use of weights in a small period of time or does it take a while? Like by just doing sit ups, push ups, martial art routines and stuff like that?

thanks

I'm sure this isnt the answer you were looking for you will benefit so much more from using free weights. machines dont allow you to workout stabilizer muscles. So an exercise that may workout 2 muscles on a machine, may workout as many as 8 with free weights (numbers are arbitrary but you get my point).

If price is an issue, a good idea is to go to Wal-Mart and pickup their Golds Gym weight set. They are kinda cheap, but they get the job done. You can buy the weights individually, and they have a olympic barbell, an ezcurl, and dumbells that all take the olympic size weights. Then you just need a weight bench (try to get one that inclines for a greater range of exercises). You could probably get away with doing all this for $300-$400. And if you shop around and get used equipment, i could see it being significantly cheaper. Plus, this would take up a lot less space than a machine.

Obviously the choice is yours, but if you really wanna be serious about weight training, there is no other way to go but free weights IMO.

Or you can try this.

I am older than most of these guys and no longer have the piss and vinegar to lift free weights. I was looking to get a cable pully gym for around $1400 and came upon this and thought I would try it. I love the thing. It works muscles I didn't know I had anymore. It won't make you look like or be as strong as Arnold S. but it keeps you nicely toned. It is actually fun working out on it.

I have a Bowflex and am quite pleased with it. It gives you a lot of execrcise options and flexibility. I also have a set of the Bowflex Selectech dumbells and they are great and reasonably priced ($299) all you'll need is a cheap bench to go with them. Others are right though you need some type of free weights to truly work all your muscles and see better results.

thanks guys

any reccomendations on any good videos that teach you how to lose weight and maybe gain muscle with and without exercise equipment?

Where did you find the Selecttech dumbells for $299 ? EVERYWHERE i look they are $399. at $399 i cant justify it, but $299 i would strongly consider them

I'm with Bobsk8. I have been using free weights and weight machines since I was 14 (am now 62). I bought one of the Total Trainer type machines and love it. Mine isn't as nice as Bobsk8's, but I wanted to try one to see if I liked it before I spent any real money on one. Mine cost $129 including shipping from sportsauthority or dickssportinggoods. It probably wont last more than a year, but then I plan on upgrading to the total trainer. Unlike what most people will tell you, this machine will build muscle mass, just not the bulky kind of muscles. You will have longer muscles like a swimmer. The resistance is fine for most people looking to stay in shape . It will not work for hard core body builders.
You can find the one that I bought here:
