hi Gorgie,
Welcome! you have come to the right place. i suggest starting a written or online diary to record you thoughts. It is a fact, you will have good and bad days, but the bad days don't have to out number the good days. there are many people here that check into journals and offer support and motivation. also motivation can be reached by just reading others diaries and progress. Mann you can get tips and testimonies to. You can lick this thing. Take it one day at a time and suround yourself with positive people if you are short of them then come in the forum and post or read. you can get some motivation by helping others.

peace

heya Young Georgie,
Welcome to the forums.

Good to see you finally making the choice. Wow 6 months! thats a nice long time , you could potentially loose 50-100lb in that time nicely at a reasonable rate.

I find calorie counting the best bet, i keep mine between 1200-1500 a day (usually the lower end), and i do about an hour of cardio, high heart rate exercise a day if i can (though i do have 'off days').
Ive lost about 107lb in 7 months now, the change is fantastic! small things you never appretiated before you do.

Sign yourself up to or to log what you eat and exercise you do.
You might also want to start an online diary under the diary threads and join in some of the motivational challenges in the Club Challenges to keep you going.
Dont go under 1200 calories a day or your body will go into starvation mode and you wont loose anything much :)

Doing this means you can eat whatever you want (though if you eat healthier you loose better) so long as you can fit it inside the calorie range.

Good luck with your mission, feel free to PM me if you need help.

Hi George,
Welcome to the WLF!

First I want to say, GOOD for you for taking control of this - only you can do it - and you CAN do it.

No matter how much you have to lose, each pound comes off the same way, one at a time!

Wishes has some excellent advise in her post above - I would second all that she suggests.

More so then going on any specific "diet". It is a lifestyle you can live with not only while losing weight, but while maintaining that weighloss once it's gone!

Thankyou guys. (heres to the beggining)

Heyyy Guys,

Thankyou very much for the warm welcome and Advice to help me begin this journey. I feel part of a family. Wishes congratulations on your weightloss thats amazing and very inspirational.

Today is my first day trying to loose weight, and i just feel hungry all the time. is that normal?...haha well ive bin drinking water soo far, and have been trying to keep myself busy. soo i dont think about food.:D

im about to go to the gym and get my cardio for the day

Untill next timee,
Take care, and best wishes with reaching you goals

Hiya Georgie,
Nice to meetcha. I'm Samantha, I'm 15, guess I'm just posting 'cause our ages are close and also I like your name, hehe. It's awesome that you're starting at this age instead of waiting before it gets out of hand. Don't worry about the hunger thing, your body will adjust and soon you'll only feel hungry when you're supposed to:D You should start a diary in the Weight Loss Diary section. That way I can check up on you, hehe.

I haven't been over to check the diary section yet, have you started one? I don't know if you want total strangers going over your eating habits, but believe me, it can help!

Start small, that's how I began. Ease into it. The first week I cut way down on pop and drank my minimum amount of water everyday. I kept that up for a week, then the second week I added something else (going for a walk every day) Then another goal the next week.

I found it was a lot better than jumping in feet first, then quitting.

1200-1500 calories is probably much too low for someone of larger size. The starvation response mechanism is not triggered at a set point for all populations, as you state above, below 1200. We are all metabolically unique and have different metabolic rates.

If this individual has been consistently eating 3500 calories per day, just a number I am throwing out, and you cut her down to 1200 per day, you damn well better believe that she would lose an appreciable amount of muscle.

Actually that part is entirely up to themselves, I said what intake i was on (and several others on the board). If they feel more comfortable at 2000 they are welcome too. but 1200-1500 is actually a fair amount of food. If you ate the correct foods it would be just as filling as eating 3500 of say KFC and cheeseballs :)
I was eating probably more than 3500 when i started, i went to 1200 with few problems other than a bit of hunger that was curbed easily with soup, coffee, water, etc.
Now my stomach has shrunk from the unhealthy size it was down to a normal size and i actually can not eat that much if i tried.

The starvation response is triggered usually a fair bit lower than 1200, 1200+ is considered safe by most doctors or medical institutes.

I will repeat, there is no set point of caloric intake that the starvation response is triggered. Also, I am sure that you, and many others on this site have cut calories by great amounts in order to lose weight. I never said otherwise.

That does not mean that what you did was optimal for body composition, that is what I am saying.

Any caloric deficit will lead to tissue loss, that is simply physiology and thermodynamics.

I am well aware of how much 1200-1500 calories worth of food is.

I don't like counting caleries any sugestions on how to loose? I have cut out most sugars and I don't drink soda.

While cleaning up a diet will surely benefit your health, and probably even help in weight loss, calories are what dictate weight unfortunately. I don't think anyone likes doing it, but if you want to know FOR SURE that you are heading in the right direction nutritionally, counting calories is a must.

If you absolutely hate the idea of doing this you can start by making healthy food selections and see where your weight heads. If you are not losing, start eating less. Without counting calories though, there really is no science to know what you are doing.

Have you looked into sites such as
