Hello! My name is Katie and I am not necessarily "new" to this forum. But its been a long time since I last was on here or posted anything. I am at a point in my life where I am turning over a new leaf. I moved away from home. I am now living in a dorm at the University that I am attending. I am a junior in college and I have never wanted to lose weight more than now. I NEED to lose weight for my health. I hope that I meet some great and inspirational people through this site! I am very excited to get started. This weekend I am taking the time to get my thoughts in line and set some goals. I am also going to be grocery shopping. I thought that it would be easier to lose weight now that I dont live at home, but its SUPER hard because my main source of food is from the dining centers and there are very limited choices of healthy foods there. I have eaten down there for about 2 weeks now and I am starting to recognize which of their foods are the healthiest! Wish me luck and I will keep everyone informed on how I am doing! Im very excited to start this journey!

Well welcome back to this forum. I have only been here for about 6 weeks or so but I have found this site to be very helpful and supportive when your feeling down about things or need help with motivation. Good luck on getting to your goals while in school. I know how hard that is when all they serve most of the time are fatty foods and offer very limited section of healthy foods.

ugh... the dorms :s

Welcome back!! I know how the dorm cafeteria's can be. I am pretty sure that is where I started gaining!! If you have a fridge in your room that will make it easier to have healthy snack options for thoes late nights. Also, carry water and a veggie snack to class helped me during my jr and sr years of undergrad.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Hello Katie

I understand exactly where you are. it is interesting we think that when we change our environments, it will be easier, but not the case. Wherever we are - until we really decide what we want and how we going to do it - the results will be the same. Katie, it sounds like you really do want to lose weight for your health, your life and I am sure your self-confidence. All great reasons - I have 2 friends now whose health is suffering due to being overweight. You mentioned writing down your goals. Great start! be specific, detail them- set dates and then take the next step - next to each goal, list HOW you are going to reach that goal and then take the first step towards it. Decide too HOW you are going to lose weight - what eating program are you going to devise for youirself and what exercise plan? Make your plans realistic - ones that you can reach, but do stretch you too. Lastly Katie - what form of accountability can you set up for yourself?

I wish you all the best.

Kim

Hey Katie!
Im glad that sounds like you are committing yourself into more healthy eating and living.
Just my two cents, when i first started college 3 years ago, I had late night chicken nuggets, big curly yummy fries and pizzas and everything u could think of from the dining hall everyday not mentioning the mid term study break was the organe chicken at 2am.
When i got a bf in my sophomore year, i ate out even more than ever. The two years brought me extra 20lbS! Living away from the family, and my strict mommy, I fully indulged myself. Then it came to a point when my mom got so mad at me being too fat in her Chinese eyes, and we would fight all the time.
The past spring, i finally made a commitment. I made sure I went to teh gym at 3 times a week, and 45mins each. Use the GYM!!! Take advantage of it when you are in school. I wore gym clothes to classes in the morning and walk straigt to the gym after. After last spring quarter (3months) I lost abt 8 lbs just by eating right and excersing. 165 to 157.
Dont get discouraged when you dont see results, but the pant size does!
just keep trying and trying!!!:)

Also, if money's an issue, don't forget frozen veggies and fruits and maybe even canned (try for some with low sodium or in light syrup). I'm in college too, but I don't live on campus, so it's easier for me to lose weight than if I still lived w/ parents.

Katie,

Whatever you do never give up. Even if you mess up. I have messed up before, and that didn't stop me from getting the body I always wished.

Try to think what will make this attempt different. Learn from your failures. Learn from other people experience.

hey katie,
i did the same thing- and now im back too and im serious about it!!! ive found that it is but easier to lose the weight at school as long as youre good about it. good luck!

Hi Katie

Just wanted to stop in a say hi and good luck.

Boy that fast food can be really hard to pass up. The mini-fridge idea sounds like a great one. If you can't fight temptation----run!

Isn't it funny how food (any food) always tastes better when your REALLY hungry?
