I'm tired of shotokan

Im 15, been doing shotokan karate for the past 5 years. I earned my black belt last month, and it wasn't easy on any level. However, after 5 years of doing shotokan, i want to take another style of martial arts. I don't want it to be anything fancy, i want it to be a tough martial arts style that trains your internal muscles and gives you strength and the upper hand in street fighting; a practical style of martial arts i guess. Any suggestions of styles that would fit this description? thanks in advance:D

btw, i dont want any suggestions concerning tae kwondo or any style related to tae kwondo; its not practical in street fighting, and i just reeaaaally dislike it.

I did some Mantis Kung Fu when I was younger. Absolutely brutal as a fighting style (every block and attack are breaking something). It's probably hard to find a teacher, but if there's a place around you, give it a shot.

Your "internal muscles" are your soft muscles, your organs, and no there is no possible way to "train" those.

Take up boxing. Boxing is more efficient in street fighting than 90% of the martial arts out there. Quick, simple, and efficient. Not to mention the combo's you can pull off are freakin' devastating if they connect. ...that...and you look really cool doing it.

If I were you I'd take up oly lifting

lmao

But seriously, if you're not lifting/strength training seriously, you compromise your use of various skills against your opponents.

As for a martial art, what options do you have?

Honest to god when I say this;

"Kick to the balls" = most powerful and efficient attack ever concieved.

Haha, only if it connects. If it doesn't and that's your only move, then the guy knows you're a dirty fighter, AND you've used your best attack. Not that I have a moral issue against this, but if you do it, it had better work the first time!

I'm still waiting for Allen to tell you you're stupid for being tired of shotokan LOL

LOL - yeah.
To be honest if your board of the classes its down to the teacher not the style.

There is way too much to learn in just 5years in any style. I say, just join the best club you can get to, no matter what style.

Black belt in 5 years - Thats what we call a belt factory.

This is not an insult or critisizm but you should ask yourself if you really feel like a black belt?
Do you feel how you expected a black belt to feel?
Are you confident enough to walk into another Karate school and telling them that you are a black belt?

I gave up on my 1st chance to get my black because I didnt feel I was good enough to have it. I waited another year untill I felt I was ready.

it takes 4 to get a black belt in our school... and we're based off of Nakayama JKA...

4 years is a reasonable enough time to get a black belt.. especially since all a black belt means in our association is you have a knowledge of basics and are ready to learn advanced techniques..

belt factories are schools that give black belts after 2 years and to kids.

whoa, thats pretty quick.

It took me 3years to get to purple.
then 1year on purple
1year on 1st brown
18months on 2nd brown
4years on 3rd brown.

I dont expect to grade for 2nd dan for another 6years.

but you're wado ryu, it may be a little different...

Like I said... all shodan in our system means is you have a good knowledge of the basic techniques and you are ready to learn true shotokan karate...

Allan - yeah deffo. The 10 coloured belts is a western thing.

Back in the day they had white, red and black and thats it.

there are some schools who use 5 colored belts...

white
yellow
green
brown
black..

but lets face it.. in america, people need that 'carrot' in front of their nose to keep them going.. and its those people who pay the bills while the rest of us learn our art. we all get the same instruction.. but the ones who are serious take the most out of it.

Check out Krav Maga. Or you can team up with your friends and train Gutterfighting
