I'm starting!! Here's my plan....

I've been trying to lose weight basically all my life. I've never been really overweight or obese, but never happy with the way I am. So this is yet another attempt at trying to lose the 15 pounds I want to lose. I'm 5'4" and weight 148. I'm trying to not weight myself all the time because I don't want to be consumed with numbers, but how I fit in my clothes. Here's my plan (I got my husband to try it with me):

Every morning I have a smoothie with soy protein powder, banana, and either some strawberries, peaches, or cherries (all frozen fruit), and a little bit of milk. It adds to about 300-400 cal depending on what fruit and how much i use.

Lunch is pretty much whatever I have on hand wherever I'm at (usually slimfast, piece of fruit, leftovers from dinner, or salad with some chicken) I try to keep it at 300-500 cal.

Dinner is a little different. For two days in a row I do the same smoothie that I made in the morning. The third day I make something-low fat meat, vegetable, and carb. usually about 500 cal.

Okay so my real problem is snacking at night. I somehow can not seem to figure out how to keep my craving for sweets, salty snacks, or anything to snack on at night!! It's so frustrating because I do really well all day and then I ruin it at night. I feel so irritated and mad at myself for not restraining myself from more food at night after dinner.
Does anyone have any ideas to help the snack-attack at night?? I need some help here. Some feedback would be so greatly appreciated. THanks!!

Welcome to WLF!

Your best bet is to keep track of your calories, so have a look at . It's free and fairly easy to use. With your diet plan you seem to be getting only 1400 calories which seems just a bit low (how old are you by the way?), which is also why you're probably so hungry at night. Try not to view this as a diet, but as the way you will want to continually eat, so make yourself happy. What's the point in looking great if you're going to be depressed? Are you doing any exercise as well?

I fight off sweet craving by making sorbet or drinking a glass of milk. Strangely I don't really crave salty things anymore, but I crave creamy things like crazy. I usually just don't buy the stuff, therefore, I can't eat it.

Have a look around at all the sticky threads. They're full of great advice. Good luck to you!

I think your calorie count is a bit low as well. Why not instead of making it three meals a day eat a bunch of small meals every three to four hours. Perhaps eat some baby carrots as a snack or one of those 100 calorie packs of granola. If you do things like that your body doesn't really realize that you're on a diet and it doesn't give you as much of a fight by giving you super cravings lol. Also you can really eat wholesome things if you just keep an eye on serving portions.

I find the best thing to do is not eat after 7pm. If you get hungry drink a BIG glass of cold water to make you full. Or eat ice.

These are a few things that I follow that really help me stay on track, it's the exercise part that kills me,lol

Well nice to meet you by the way! This website is full of lots of people willing to help, support, and cheer you on when you make your goal. WHICH you will :)!

What I did to keep myself from eating ice cream, chips, and the like late at night is, well... don't buy them. I really missed a few things at first, but now I do not even think about them. A bag of chips every few months is wonderful now! I can also make one of those little ice cream tubs last several servings (like they even suggest!).

I also agree with h34vyK1tt13 on eating small meals more often. That seems to be the best way to go. Your calorie intake does seem low. I am sure there is a thread here somewhere that says your body goes into starvation mode (burning less calories during idle times) when it senses there is not food coming.

Welcome! This is a good place for encouragement!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll definentely take the snacking advice. Even t hough it looks like its not many calories, I do make up for it in the evening...hopefully we can change that. I'm 21-someone asked earlier. And I do exercise about 4 days a week (cardio burns like 300-500 cal depending on how much time i have) and if i can I lift some weights for about 20-30 minutes maybe 2 times a week. But I still don't understand why I'm not losing any weight! I realize that if you don't eat enough calories and exercise a lot your body will work against you eventually, but I bet I eat like 1700-1900 calories a day seriously. I'm kinda scared to try to increase my caloric intake bc I don't want to gain anymore, at least I'm not gaining as it is, but I want to lose obviously. But I still need some encouragement to keep on trying. I'm tired and busy so its difficult to keep motivated, but this site helps so much. I hope I can do the same for you guys.

p.s. how do you get the weight progress chart on the bottom of your reply's?
