Hi,

My self and my Wife have recently started to aim to lose weight. We have basically started brisk walking 4 miles a day (a combination of brisk walking, jogging and hill sprints), at least 4 times a week. We eat healthily i.e. plenty of veg / fruit. We have swapped things like normal rice for cauliflower rice etc. I'm consuming approx 1900 calories and my wife is consuming approx 1700 calories. We have calculated very accurately the calories in the food we eat so we know we arent under estimating what we are eating. We have been doing this for 6 weeks now and arent losing weight. (and the trousers arent any looser.)

I wondered if anybody could give any suggestions as to why we are not losing.

Our stats are below:

- Female, 5ft 5 inch, 151lb - (teacher by occupation so relatively light activity during work)

- Male, 5ft 9 inch, 183lb - (Salesman by occupation so relatively light activity during work)

Any comments would be greatly received.

Hi,

We didnt use any particular method to detemrine what our calorific intake should but based on what we are eating is that o=too much or too little? Can you advise what it should be?

Weights would be good but my wife does not want to end up bulking due to muscle growth. If you have any information on this then greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your comments on this.

Hi, thanks for the feedback.

Given our stats could you provide the formula to me on here or carry out a calculation. Im happy to message if you really feel its necessary.

Thanks

Thanks - I have just done that calculation and in order to lose weight i.e. 20% below my TDE. I should be consuming 1980 calories. At the moment im consuming 1900 so surely based on this i should be losing?

What other factors could be stopping me from losing weight then?

How long have you been at your weight loss? I am prettty much in the same boat. You begin losing and then it appears to stop. I have decided to try to be patient and persistent. So I will keep up what I am doing which is walking 3 miles a day. I do believe that for me and possibly for you it could be in what you are eating. For example. even though you are consuming 1900 and 1700 calories a day I think it is where the calories are coming from.

I find that for myself, snacks were a killer for me because they appear to be light but the nutritional value was nil. I have since given up chips,.. a big deal for me... but I have done it. Another thing I am watching is boredom eating. Like having the TV feed me. I am going to get a scale and keep a journal and perhaps later chronicle my weight loss Keep in touch please I am really interested in your progress

Hey Lewis,
I am a certified holistic health coach and certified personal trainer who lost 60 pounds, got over fatty liver and got my blood glucose levels back to normal. I'll try to help however way I can. Did you and your wife ever calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)? Knowing that number is crucial for weight loss. And why do you and your wife want to lose this weight? What is the reason?

Your wife NEEDS to do weight resistance training, and so do you. She will NOT bulk up as females don't have the hormones, she will get curvy which is what you want. Start lifting weights and i guarantee you will start losing weight! You're doing everything else right so you should be losing weight which you're not. Weight exercises WILL make you lose weight. Good luck.
