I'm New!

losing20lbs

Hi everyone! Okay, so here's my story. In high school, I always struggled with my weight. Freshman year I weighed around 145 lbs.. and was a size 12. For a high school girl, that is not good. So i lost around 15 lbs, and I've been 130 lbs every since (with neverending diet attempts to get smaller), and wearing a size 8.

My goal: to weigh 110 lbs and wear a size 4.

I'm a student.. I study acting, and I really want a shot at making it. This is what it takes!

I'm trying now to eat between 800-1000 calories per day before school kicks into gear and I need more energy. By that time, it should be up to 1200. I hope to lose around 5 lbs each month, and weigh 110 by the end of the school year. I really think I have a chance if I do it sensibly!!!

Hi and welcome to the WLF,

You didn't mention how tall you were - but there are few people here who would recommend going under 1200 calories a day (especially for a teenager).

If you're eating between 800-1000 calories, what are you eating? I'm sure that plays a huge role in your energy level.

We all want people to reach their goals in a safe, healthy and sensible manner.

Oh, I understand. I'm 5'6". Well, I'm a food lover, so I try to get the bang for my caloric buck with those 1000 calories. I want to eat as much as possible. So, a lot of fruit, and soups and salads and stuff like that. For instance, today for lunch I had vegetarian chili and a rosemary breadstick, and for dinner I'll just have something light.

I have yet to see one chart recommend 110 pounds for someone 5'6" - I'm not sure how old you are, but the charts I checked, I put a guestimate age of 17.

That being said, 800-1000 calories is very low, you definitely risk having your body not burn calories efficently and your metabolism might not work in your best interest.

If your body thinks you're starving it, it won't burn calories.

Have you checked out or to look at good, healthy guidelines, both for weight & diet?

I will back M2M up on this one. Taking in less than 1200 calories in a day can be devastating to your organs. Have you calculated your basal metabolic rate (BMR)? This will let you know the amount of calories you would need to eat in order to maintain your current weight, then you can decrease this number according (usually just by a couple hundred calories a day). I'm not positive where this calculator can be found, but just do a search online for Basal Metabolic Rate.
Best of luck with your goals! Take good care of yourself always.

i can understand everyone's concern, but i am a very young person. no, i'm not 17.. but i am 20 years old. and i'm built on a very small frame.

Anyway, I am also a training actor, and if that gives you any sort of inclination why I prefer myself to look rather svelte, hopefully it will make more sense.

I'm also really active and i take care of myself, thanks! no worries! new york is a tough town.

ps-i'm switching to 1200 calories next week after i lose what i gained during the holiday season.
