I'm NEW & WORKING ON MY FITNESS

... I'm up in the gym workin' on my fitness. That should be my theme song.

Hey everyone! So I've been a gym rat the last few weeks to try and work off all the weight I've accumulated over the past few years, especially this last year while I was away at college.

In my first years of high school, I was 140 pounds at 5'3 and I played Varsity Volleyball and Soccer. I was eating like a monster, but was working out so much that I didn't really gain any weight. Once I stopped playing, I still had my eating habits, but without the workout. I started to slowly gain weight. By the end of high school, I was at 160. I was definitely biggeer.

Last fall, I left for college. With the new environment, bad sleeping habits, being away from home, joining a sorority and massive amounts of alcohol almost daily, I managed to gain 26 pounds. 26 in 9 months! When I came home last month, I was at 186 pounds. I definitely gave the Freshman 15 guy a run for his money.

So I'm home now and determined to work all of this weight off this summer. I want to try and get down to 150 by the time I go back to school at the end of August and work myself down to 120 pounds once I'm back at school.

I'm not too sure about what kind of exercise to do to work all this weightt off. This is my workout right now, can you guys give me suggestions to making it better? Thanks so much!

I go to the gym almost everyday. Sometimes I'll give myself a Friday off.

Stretch
Cardio - 30 minutes
Less intense Cardio - 10-15 minutes
Stretch
Situps.200ish Sometimes I do more.
Work on some ab machines
Stretch.
Weight training. I work on a few at the moment that work the inside and outside of my thighs, and some for my calves. I alaso do a few machines for my arms but I'm not too crazy about weight training. I only do about 10 ish minutes on weight training.
Stretch
Cool down on elliptical. 5 minutes at low intensity.

K thanks guys!

!

You know when I first really started working out, I spent only a few minutes on weight training also. However, after doing LOTS of research and asking a few certified trainer friends their take on weight training, they believe you really should focus on that at least 30 mins 2-3 times a week, more if your body allows it. So I switched my workout routine a bit: started off with weight training before anything else, so that I could really focus on training my muscles. Always to the point of fatigue, but not where I'm getting sloppy when it comes to "perfect form." After a month or so, it really kicked my metabolism into high gear. I lost 4 more pounds than the months prior! WOOHOOO! If you can add cardio after weight training, then that's even better. Just don't do too much too quick. I'm sure you've heard that one before. haha Good luck with your Goals, Lucky!

I have opinions about your workout but more than anything I am concerned to what your diet is like.

Please list what it is like now (how many calories you get in to if you know) and what it was like before.

My diet before was horrible. Being away at school, I had a weird sleeping schedule, and would eat whenever I had the time.

Usually at school my schedule is roughly like this...

  • 11 am wake up
  • breakfast -- bagels, omelets, fruits, cereal, pastries, pancakes -- wahtever i felt like
  • class all day
  • dinner -- usually whatever the chef made -- pizzas, pastas, bbqs, etc etc. usually once a week my sorority sisters and i would go out to eat dinner -- sushi, italian, mexican, whatever. very high in calories and fat.
  • night time -- go out and drink. usually anywhere from 6-13 shots of tequila, vodka, etc. sometimes mixed drinks. AND THEN i get the munchies, and eat more snacks with friends

that's pretty much what i did all year, last year. sometimes id even eat lunch when i had time between calsses and would eat whatever without caring what it was. im surprised i didnt gain more weight than i really did -- considering i drank enough alcohol to fill several oceans and ate horrible foods.

NOWWWW, however... when i get up in the morning...

i have either plain oatmeal with no sugar or salt ... orrr.. fruits -- blueberries, strawberries, bananas..whatever i feel like that day.

sometimes im too busy to eat a meal at lunch -- but i always carry raisins, nuts, or cherry tomatoes in my purse just in case im tempted to eat but i dont want to eat out.

usually for dinner, ill eat salad with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, + fish, chicken eetc. sometimes instead of salad, ill eat other veggies.

and thennn at night, i hit up the gym when im done with the day's activities.
