im new here

hi all, im new here. im muffy, from missouri. for a while now, i have been obsessed with nutrition, but i have recently lost my motivation to work out.

i really like to work out and eat right, but i seem to not get out as much as id like to.

im trying to lose about fifteen pounds in fat...maybe twenty... and gain five pounds or so in muscle (for tone). i am good with building muscle, but i would like some tips on fat loss.

Are there any new hot methods or pills or supplements, fads, etc... Whatever!! that could help me out??

Thanks

jessica

muffy, there's nothing new but fads, gimmicks and useless waste of time stupidity.

i think you know what needs to be done and i think you know why you're having trouble. motivation is great when you have it and terrible when you dont.

perhaps tell us what you're doing and we might be able to pinpoint whats going on in your routine. :)

im usually at home or at school. im going to go to the school rec center which is supposedly really nice when school starts out. i eat WAY too much because i am usually bored.

now wait a minute. is that you on that website in your profile????

if thats you, YOU LOOK GREAT!

(notice how i emphasized that :D)

it says you're modeling? thats awesome. i'm confused, seems like you have alot going on and you're bored?

aw thanks. i just feel... like i could have better stomach/back fat/oblique tone and i need super pointers on diet and work out that work best. yes that was me.

basic ideas are to consume 5-6 meals a day about 3 hours apart from each other. each meal should be based on complete proteins (eggs, milk, cottage cheese, chicken, lean red meat, tuna, salmon) with healthy carbs (oats, brown rice, fruits, veggies, whole wheat bread, cereals and pastas) and fats (olive oil, flax seed, natural peanut or almond butter, nuts).

keep meals simple, they do not have to be a full blown gourmet occassion. like oats and eggs for breakfast, chicken breast and sweet potato for lunch, can of tuna and walnuts for a snack, etc

alternate days of cardio and weight training each day. just do simple exercises and pick a form of cardio that you enjoy. :)

yeah, ive always been obsessed about this stuff so its not like im being told anything new, but it does help to get these suggestions so thank you. The only cardio i like to do are swimming, snowboarding, and being a complete dork (which involves a lot of high energy jumping around)... but snowboarding is 2.5 hrs away (and still sucks because its in MISSOURI), and swimming... i just cant bring myself to do it for some reason again. probably just laziness. i tell myself i like to run, but its too cold outside (ideal) and treadmills etc are BORING (unless i had enough money to buy my own and could pick what was on tv :D)...

for meals, i always seem hungry. i try and only snack on tuna (recent discovery), low calorie fruit (such as grapefruit, an apricot, lemons, kiwi), sometimes a low calorie/no sugar fruit smoothie bar (about 50 calories and made with splenda), and sugar free jello (10 cal a pop). I usually only drink diet soda because it has no calories (if i found another drink with no calories, i would drink that instead--if it had flavour)...luckily ive also found this minute maid light stuff, as well as crystal light...

ive given up on soda a million times (prolly thrice), but it always brings me back. but i have always refused to drink regular soda. and i dont drink alcohol. So the beverages arent really too much of a prob besides the diet soda being really unhealthy.

Here is the problem. I need to figure out what portions i should be taking in each meal. Or rather, how many calories for each of these 5/6 meals?

Also, wHAT FOODS FILL A PERSON UP FAST?!?! This is my biggest problem. i always seem to be hungry!!!! it baffles me! when i have previously gone on a diet and hardly eaten anything, my stomach shrank and i wasnt like this...i was more normal (ish...i got full off of something like a cookie or jar of yogurt--which is preferable to me). But there in lies my mistake... i was eating carbs... thus i got hungry later. and my stomach stretched again. I know fat and protein fill a stomach up fast, but which FOODS will do the trick the best?

Thanks

ok, so you want a small tight stomach more than what it is now. cardio will getyou to lose the poundage, stay away from sodas (this is all my personal opinion), stay away from deep fried junk, some salad dressing especially ceaser has alot of fat i've noticed.
I was in the same situation as you when I got comfortable doing nothing for a little while last year, i gained too much weight, but now im in the gym 4 days a week and looking great, what you need to do is find something to motivate you too. I finally looked in the mirror and said, its time to hit the gym, forced myself after work to go right there, even though i was working out with the squadron i still went afterwards because it wasnt enough.
I started readin more and more fitness books and started to set goals, my current one is to gain weight to 220 lbs. i started at 200 and im now 206. but thats me.
In my line of work fitness is a must or you're gonna get in crap from ur sgt's and WO's. lol.

you just need to get into that mode where you dont wanna be lazy and comfortable sitting around, eating, doing the american lifestyle that almost all of'm do, lol.

watch some fitness competitions to motivate yourself or something,

or just say to yourself one day,
im sick of this crap. ill go to the gym, run my ass off and do a crap load of ab workouts :p.

works for me. try it out.
set a goal. change ur diet, and you'll be happier with yourself and be in a better mood and not want to sit around doing crap all eating all day or whatever it is you, lol.
dont worry about being full. i never am full, full will make you laze around , thats me though remember, whenever i eat i get my vegies in me and my meat , inbetween meals im eating protein bars/shakes just to keep my metabolism working. I'm also currently using a GNC product called Cuts, so far its not bad.

eat vegies if you're going to sit around and eat for a bit instead of cookies and jars of yogurt, lol.

I'd say, i'd get around 500 cals each meal I think, 500-700.

vegies and meat and some milk, i love the milk stuff, lol, choco milk, 1% and 2% white.

thats my only problem, i need more water in me.

get off ur butt and workout . use an euliptical machine, if thats how you spell it, its what I do for cardio other than b-ball and hockey and many many other sports I do.....:p.

have fun.

Muffster,

My favorite fast filling food is cottage cheese. Plain chicken breast, eggs, protein(whey-casein) shakes, lean red meat, tuna, oatmeal/oatbran, mixed veggies, fruit, brown rice and mixed nuts(no peanuts) basically make up my diet. Same food all the time makes shopping easy. :)

I generally have some diet beverage on hand but tend to drink more tea and green tea with Splenda.

Here is an article I ran across that may be interesting to you to check out.
