I'm New Here - Plz Help Me...

Hiya!

This is my first post and sorry it is a bit long. I just wanted to tell you about me since you are my new online buddies. I have never joined any forums in my life so I don't have much experience in here.. I really hope I won't bore you with my blah blah blah! Anyway, here it goes.

My 2012's top1resolution is to lose weight. In fact this determination started about a month ago.

I worked as an animator and a modeler...& yep! it involves a lot of fun work but also involves sitting infront of the Laptop for abt 8 hours a day.. Then I go home and end up watching TV with my partner. We do cook at home but usually get takeaways atleast 2 times a week. To add to this, are the weekend parties. This has been more or less the routine for abt 2 years now.. Oh! Yes!! With such a lifestyle I had no option but to get fat..

This incident happened in the last week of Nov-2011. It must have be around 5:0 in the morning. I got up at once and started to cry. I must have dreamt something.. My partner was really worried as he did not know what was going on and this was the first time such a thing had happened. I told him how badly I wanted to lose weight but just wasn't able to. He said: "Huh!? What!?" .. By this time, after me crying and him talking, we both were kinda done with our sleep. He told me:"Let's get up and I'll make us some coffee and we'll sit and talk about it.." We spoke about lot of things from our lifestyle to work schedule, from eating at home to eating out, from gyms to jogs. (Let me also mention here that my partner is real fit. He keeps doing push-ups even when he's watching TV and to add to that, also it may be his body tendency not to put on weight..) When we were discussing, we both realised that my work schedule was so hectic that I could not even accommodate a tiny 1 hr work-out in it. So he suggested that if I was so keen on slimming down, it's better if I quit job for a couple of months and concentrate on the weight loss - not just 1hr/day but walk to the city center, go to gym in the morning and in the evening & totally dedicate myself to losing calories. I was initially a bit reluctant as it is a real big decision but then I realised that, just to earn more money I was compromising with my body and life and I was surely not happy about it. So I decided to quit my job.

When I told my boss the next day. He was very shocked but was also very understanding. He told me that because of my quality of work & experience, he would love to hire me again when I want to join. I told him that I was planning to start work again by May 2012. I worked for a month more, finished all my work tasks and handed over my project to my colleague. My last working day was 23-Dec-2011. I am not sure if my boss will hire me again or I will work for someone else but I am certain that I won't regret these 4 months(Jan,Feb,Mar,Apr) of my life. I will make sure I make most of my time by going to the gym, walks, jumping in front of the TVand eating the right food.

That's my story so far. I need people like me, who are in a similar situation to be my friends because we will understand each other better. We can talk to each other by sharing experiences, solutions and also encourage, support one another. So please help me..

Also it is so good to talk to someone who can know what you are going through.

Looking forward to this... & Hey! Veggie recipes, Opinions & Tips on weight loss are MOST welcome.

Thank You Forum.

Hey Lotus, welcome to the forum!

I'm not going through the same thing but I wanted to say congrats on taking charge of your life, even if it took something very drastic. Have you taken a look at the Weight Loss Diary section or the Before & After section? Those sections will probably be your best bet for finding others in similar situations :)

Good luck to you - post a link to your journal if you start one so that we can follow your progress!

@PLBFitness!

I went thru the sections. That was very informative..

and the Before & After section - Oh God! They are so helpful & inspiring...

I am really looking forward to be in the Bef & Aft Section 3 months from now..

Thx so much.. :)

See you later..

Hope you reach your goal in your timeframe and have a solid plan for maintaining your weight once you go back to work.

I'm concerned that you're setting yourself up for disappointment if not. (any reason you can't exercise during your TV time as your partner does?)

Good luck with your weight loss plan!!! I think it is great to have a partner like yours in life! With such support you will definitely achieve your losing weight goal!

@Tourny:

Thx :)... I hope that I reach my goal too..

All these days since I was working the whole day and would come home late..I would be too exhausted to exercise in the eve..

But now I've started to work out in front of the TV too..

Also, I've joined gym from 3-Jan... I am trying hard to do at least 1000cal a day but have only be able to do 850.. I hope to gradually increase it in a week..

Also, I was also a great fan of Soft drinks & Crisps. I haven't touched it in 2012 & I feel real good about it! Yay!!!!!!!!! :)...

Plz let me know if there are other tips that will fasten my process..

AHey Lotus! Your story is a great one and very motivating! I'm new to this forum as well so it would be great to share each other's progress. My program will be a little different than yours but let's hope (scratch that) let's KNOW our results will be the same: reaching and maintaining a healthy body weight!! I wish you the best of luck and hope to speak again on the forums!

Hey Qualzog!!

Thx & wish u all the very best too...

I had bought a tiny diary where I kept track of what I did, ate, etc.. but the other day I misplaced it at home.. So I thought of keeping an online journal..

I have started one at: lotuslakeland.tumblr.com

I guess you already do write it down. But If u don't then I suggest, you also keep a track of what/how much you eat, etc etc. It can either be a paper diary or an excel sheet or an online diary.

I am finding it really helpful to keep my mind in control of eating less..

Sounds like a great idea! if the diary helps, go for it!! i've tried keeping track in the past but i never continue with it....I know how much and when to eat, its simply willpower that has gotten the best of me in the past
ith 7 am: whey smoothie with 1% and mixed berries
10 am: oatmeal with low fat yogurt
12:00 pm: turkey wrap with lettuce (usually have a meat protein witha carb)
3 pm: low cal protein bar or handful of unsalted almonds
6 pm: a mostly protein meal with a good serving of vegetables (lean meats or fish)
9 pm post workout shake with glutamine (for recovery) or on off days a slice of whole grain bread with peanut butter

obviously i change things up but i find that consuming many small meals with a good exercise routine is my solution! and dont forget the importance of a good multivitamin. I find that a diet very high in protein and moderate carb intake (from whole grains) is what works for me....wont necessarily work for others (friends and family couldn't do it!) but it saved me once and it will work again!! i just need to stick to it for life!!!! Eat to live, dont live to eat is what ive gotta get through my head!

I'm very excited to be able to watch your progress each week. Good luck on your journey..and keep us posted.
