I'm new and need support!

I'm new to this forum, but certainly an oldie when it comes to struggling with weight and food.

I've struggled with my weight and food for as long as I can remember. I yo-yo'ed a lot, mostly creeping up. My top weight was 260 in 1999. I joined a 12 step group and lost a lot of weight and got divorced in 2001 - I was married to Mr. Wrong and the weight loss and self esteem increase gave me the courage to leave him. I "maintained" my weightloss for some time, ranging from about 135-145 for several years.

I got remarried in 2005 to the love of my life and the weight started to slowly creep up. We decided to try to get pregnant in 2007. I had two miscarriages, my weight continued to creep up (I was overeating to get through the miscarriages). I got pregnant a 3rd time and was at about 180. The pregnancy took and my weight continued to go up. I weighed in at 226 when we had our baby boy on March 27, 2008.

After giving birth, I dropped almost 30 pounds pretty quickly and effortlessly. Then I got severe postpartum depression, which was a complete nightmare. I am finally doing better in the postpartum depression arena and decided I really need to buckle down and do something about my weight. I do not feel good physically at this weight and am embarrassed by how I look, plus I am not young anymore and heart disease runs in my family. I want to be a normal body size and set a good example of eating habits and exercise for my little boy. Oh yeah, I want to look good for my husband, too, although he loves me no matter what (thank God).

My Stats
Age: 36
Height: 5' 3.5"
Pants Size: 14 (a tight 14)
Current Weight: 200 (almost 3 months postpartum)
Goal Weight: 145-150

Hi there,

Im glad your feeling better.

If you dont mind me asking, what are you doing to lose the weight now?

Welcome Melissa! Sounds like you are really motivated. That is good to hear! What is your plan to make your effort successful?

Hi Melissa!
Welcome! I have also just started here and made a new committment to starting out new too. This forum has been very motivational for me, expecially looking at the photos in the Before, During & After Section.
Best wishes to you and hopefully we can encourage each other!
Suz

Thank you all for your replies and encouragement! I'm here for everyone, too, and look forward to making some new online buddies!

What I'm doing to lose weight is I'm weighing and measuring my food, eating only 3 times a day (snacking is not good for me), walking, and also weighing myself regularly. Basically, just eating healthfully and being conscious of what I eat (writing it down helps). I know what foods are problems for me and what eating habits are problems for me so I avoid them. I also don't eat desserts - it's easier to not eat them for me.

I also am doing regular exercise - walking 4-5 times per week. I just did a 30 minute brisk walk outside with the baby and am now sweating like a pig - YAY! :)

Don't let anyone discourage you

Lossing weight can be a tidious task, but its even harder when you allow other people to discourage you whether gaulking at you, rude comments, just basically non-constructive criticism. I believe motivation begins in the mind, you have to visulize your goals before the actual manifestation. I've viewed many products dealing with weight loss and came up with some reviews for these .
