I'm losing weight, but I don't see/feel it

Too bad I didn't take any pics before I started this (I kinda had a phobia about being photographed with that body) so I'll have to do without any visual aids.
Within a month I lost around 22lbs, which I think is quite a lot, but the problem is, when I look in the mirror, I don't really see it, nor do I feel lighter. This is maybe because I see myself everyday and I don't really have time to see any changes...
I would try an experiment: one month without a mirror; sounds interesting, but I think it's almost impossible.
Anyway, am I the only one who lost a decent amount and fails to notice it?

First of all congrats on your weight loss.
Next, have your clothes fit any better?

I have only lost about 7lbs in the past month, so i really have not noticed anything. Three times that amount I'd hope I'd notice.

You aren't just being hard on yourself are you?

Perfectly normal IMO

Couldn't tell you the reason though. I have lost 50 pounds and still see the same guy in the mirror. I can do a HELL of a lot more than I could before, I feel great and my clothes are giant and baggy to the point I had to have them tailored. No doubt about it, I am smaller, a lot smaller....

However, I STILL see 297 pounds in the mirror.... Seriously. I see the obviously smaller belly, based on my belt size, but it looks like the same big old belly as before in the reflection or pictures. Must be a mental thing, a torment we cause ourselves. I 'know" the changes happened, but I can't "see" them yet. It's odd. And I know I am not the only one who has felt this about themselves. I am sure some people completely see the little day to day changes, but I am not one.

What I am not, is hard on myself about it. I feel the difference and love it. I think the visual acceptance will come when I get closer to my goal. But for now I will take the extra energy and tailored clothes and just wait to see what happens with the belly from hell.

From the sounds of it you are off to a good start. I hope the rest comes off as easily.

You see yourself everyday, do you see your hair growing ? Same concept, I don't see myself as different, but in old photos ;) Or even going in to get a sandwhich from a shop I get comments, so... :)

Yeah photos are amazing and it takes time to adjust. I was ambling through my old photos and the difference is amazing!! Even from years ago when I didn't think was was too big. I look so different to me. Take photos and measurements of your progress. Especially measurements: even though they go slow they are really telling if you can't see the difference in the mirror. I measure myself on the 1st of every month. You are doing great though!! 22lbs is awsome!

Also, with me, I know i've been losing the weight in unusual places.

Ironically, i've been losing weight in my face and thighs (i don't mind this, my legs has since stopped chaffing)

I am still waiting for the weight loss to reach my gut and love handles :p

Yeah its perfectly normal. I have lost 40lbs and the only place I can really tell a difference is in my face. I have even gone down a size, but I still don't see a difference when I look in the mirror. Eventually it will happen though, its just slow going. It really is important to have pictures though, I had a down week where I literally just had to keep looking at the pictures to help me keep going. So you should make sure you start taking pictures regularly (once every 2-4 weeks). You won't regret it.

I've had pictures at various weights and I don't see much of a difference -I know I've lost a bunch of inches and I have to keep replacing clothes but pictures - or the mirror - I see no change...

congrats on the weight loss.

I have lost 90 lbs and have a way to go but I dont see a difference when I look in the mirror.

I know I have lost weight because I was a 30 or 5X now I fit a 16/18 pant.

I also kept 1 pair of my biggest pants but havent looked at them in a long time.

Dont get discouraged as it will payoff in the end.

OK, so I lost about 35 pounds until now and today I finally noticed it. I had a pair of pants that I bought a few months ago but they were kinda small for me (a size or two smaller I believe); today I tried them on and they fit perfectly.
But I see something very strange and not too good: I lost weight in my face and my upper body but my thighs and butt are going down at a much more slower rate. Is it because the only type of exercise I've been doing is cycling?

Cosmin, i dont think that the weight always will come off uniformly. i have lost weight all over, but it seems to be coming off disproportionally.i have lost far more inches around my hips than my waist and tummy. as a result clothes that fit me around the hips are a bit tight around the waist. slim

each person has a genetic predisposition to store fat primarily in certain places. fat still accumulates in other area, but it holds most comfortably in select spots. for men, it is generally in the stomach area, and is usually visceral (under the muscle). This is one of the reasons men tend to die younger than women, because visceral fat in the abdomen region is very unhealthy. puts unnecessary strain on the heart and other organs. women are generally prone to store in the hips, thighs and breasts (duh, lol), and usually have more subcutaneous fat (under the skin, but above the muscle). i believe this is also part of the reason why you see cellulite on women far more than men, though I am not absolutely sure of that aspect.

Basically, when you start losing fat, your body is going to shed it from the places it wouldnt normally store it so much anyways. This generally means that weight loss for most starts in the extremities, hands and feet, and somewhat the face, and then gradually moves towards the center of the body. your genetics dictate where you will lose fat from last. so not everyone is going to lose it at the same rate in the same places. if you have an area of flab that you want to get rid of, you simply must keep shedding total body fat until the body finally decides it is time to take from that storage area. this is part of what is frustrating for many people, as they usually have an area or two in mind when they want to lose weight, and they dont see results because those problem areas are generally their genetics and will go last after everything else.

congrats on the weight loss so far!!

if your not loosing on the scale you might of gained muscle.. measure yourself weekly.. you will def see that you are loosing that way
