I'm looking for a way...

Hi, I'm a 17 year old guy and a junior in high school. I joined this forum to try and find a way to help me lose weight/look better.

I'm no "image-obsesive" teenager looking to look 20 lbs less than what I'm supposed to; I have a weight problem that I want to address by the end of the school year in time for summer-pool season.

I'm, again, a 17 y/o guy. I'm only 5'3", and have already hit my growth spurt. Not only am I the "short kid," but I weigh ~160 lbs. I play tennis and have decent legs, but my problem lies upward. I have a bit of a belly and some man boobs that embarass (wow, I can't spell tonight) me whenever I take my shirt off, and I wear loose shirts to hide them.

Tennis season starts next week, and I'll be playing about 2 and a half hours five days a week until May. For now, I've started riding a stationary bike for 40 min at a time while studying, doing 60 sit ups a day (30 at a time), and 40 push ups a day (20 at a time).

My biggest goal is to get rid of some of my belly and man boobs by mid-May. Then, my class goes on an annual overnight trip where we'll be hanging near a pool and going to a water park. Last year I was too humilliated to go to the pool, but lucked out b/c some of the guys were watching our two state baseball teams go head to head and I could skip the pool. This year it will be unavoidable though; we've scheduled to eat dinner by the pool!:banghead:

I don't have access to any gym equipment, and can only use home-methods (such as the ones mentioned above). I also can't go on some crazy diet; I live in a house in which my parents need to cook meals for our large family. Lately I've started cutting back on dinner portions, and have been eating yogurt and an apple for lunch, with grapes as a snack in between.

Does anyone have any recommendations on exercises to help me get thinner and lose the man boobs? Is my bike/push up/sit up routine any help? Am I posting this thread in the right section?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Sorry, you can't spot reduce fat. All exercise you're doing is going to help reducing excess fat and ultimately help you reduce fat also in embarrassing areas. Incorporating portion size control is a good implement to your diet. Also remember to cut out all junk food, candy, crisps, cookies, soda etc from your diet.

Good luck!

Hey Junior! Welcome to the forum!

TikTak is correct, you can't spot reduce. The more cardio you do (walking, running, biking, swimming, etc.) and the cleaner you keep your diet (if you're not doing the cooking, then the most important thing for you will be portion control), you will start to lose fat from all over your body and the belly and 'man boobs' will start to go away.

Just to clarify, are you doing 2.5 hours of tennis 5 days per week for a total of 12.5 hrs of tennis per week? Or is it 2.5 hours total for the week?
