im like an old granny!

Getting a bit peed off! For years i was a lazy c*w and now that im actually loving exercise and getting fit, my body is letting me down.

First was the hip pain after running, after getting proper shoes and it persisted, i saw a doc and an osteopath who said it was hip alignment problem from my pregnancy plus ive stained it with muscular pain, anyways, i decided to give up the running, i wasnt 'that' progessed and decided the constant hip pain wasnt worth it, plus i have a two year old to run after, the idea was to get fit to do more with him, not less!

So, obviously i want to stay fit, so i bought an exercise bike for days i cant get to the gym, and am loving getting the extra fitness in!

BUT my knees (which normally click all the time) are clicking contantly as im cycling, and my hip is sore after too!

was the bike a bad idea too?

anything i can take, other than cod liver oil, for my granny like joints?

by the way im 27!!

Sounds like you have a bad fit on your bike.

If you can, take it to a bike shop and have them fit you to it properly. Just finding the correct leg angle/extension is only 1/10 of a bike fitting. There are so many other factors involved.

We get literally hundreds of people a year come to us because they have had some sort of back, hip, or knee surgery and can no longer run or do other things. Cycling is the lowest impact sport, second only to swimming. Whether they're put onto a recumbent or a regular bicycle, they're able to ride.

The only pain you should see with a proper fit is the burn in your muscles from the intense work-out. If you feel joint pain, you're not fit to the bike correctly.

Expand your repertoire of exercises, so if injuries keep you from doing some, you can shift to others. Float like a butterfly ...

possibly due to the 3 blankets im sitting on and gel seat for my butt? whoops..think im too high up even though im on the lowest setting!

I don't know how far and often you were running, but giving it up completely seems sad. You might find a combination of stretching and resistance training will either realign your hip joint(s) or at least strengthen the muscles enough that you are able to run at least a little without too much pain.

Over the years, like any active person, I have strained and stressed a lot of parts, but I have always found that some combination of less intensity, less frequency or less duration, coupled with some stretching and assistance resistance exercises has allowed me to keep doing pretty much everything, although maybe not as well as I might like.
