I'm interviewing.....

I'm real excited. Some of you know that I'm in the process of starting my own website. I just spoke with Lyle McDonald who many of you probably know. I throw his name around quite a bit as IMO he's one of, if not the best nutrition researcher/authors out there.

Well long story short.... he agreed to let me interview him for my site. I'm not sure what I'll do with it... I'm thinking about starting a blog to host these kinds of things. But this guy is flat out awesome and such a huge player in this industry... so needless to say I'm STOKED!

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone here had any questions they'd like me to ask in the interview. I'm not promising I'll include them in the questioning. Actually, chances are good that your question won't be included, lol. Not b/c they're bad, but b/c I don't want to bombard him and I have a very long list of questions I have myself to ask and I want to get them in.

So I'm all ears... I'll probably start the interview process in a couple of weeks.

Thanks

WOW - that is too exciting for you...

I got nothin' except is he single and straight and if the answer is yes, well - I'm free most weekends :) a great cook and I put out :D

Tell me about it... I'm totally stoked. I can't wait.

Hahaha, and yea, he's not single. If he weren't, you better believe it would have been the first question I asked! :p

I figured that most wouldn't have questions. But I thought I'd at least throw it out there. If you have good questions though, please do speak up.

is it going to be a paper interview or video taped?

(i've no idea of his location.. and since he's not single not much point in stalking :D

It will be a paper interview. Last time I heard, he's out in Texas but I'm not sure if that' still the case or not.

I've got a few more big names lined up that I'd like to ask as well. Figured I'd start out with a bang with Lyle and go from there.

not that you need celebrities... your message doesn't really need it - nor do you need 'celebrity endorsements' in fact Ithink you'd do better wihtout it.

it'd be an intersting feature on your site though - kind of an industry news or what's going on eslewhere in the industry for people who aren't fitness junkies -it'd be an entry point to some of those names in a more accessible -less testesterone driven venue... (I h ad a clear point when I started this -but I think i lost it along the way.. )

I'm thinking about something like that... we'll see how it goes. I'm thinking of some pretty cool ways to work things like this into a blog. I'm not sure yet. I just talked to Gord for the first time today and let him know I got us an interview with Lyle and he's flipping out. I think I'll try and get an interview with Tom Venuto of Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle next.

As always, I'm up for suggestions!

Tell Lyle you're going to do an interview with Anssi Manninen next.

Ask him if he'd like to make a few introductory comments. :)

Hahahaha, that would be fun. That's played out though, Anssi is a f-ing moron who can't interpret data to save his life.

I did buy and read that book - it was easier once I had it printed out... but - and again I'm not sure I'm your target audience.. his website - last time I looked - just screams scam/spam - not to mention every tom dick and harry who's a reseller of that book via money making web spam links...

it might make for an interesting interview though if you got past the hype that seems to be all his site is about...

Other candidates that would be interesting - would be the guys who wrote starting strength.... while the books are long winded and made me scream get to the point already - they seemed to have a lot of accsssible information...

Again - this is just me talking... and what you want your audience to be -and I'm sure you'll handle the interviews appropriately -but i'd hat to see you lose your initial audicence because the perception might be it's a meathead site (which I KKNOW it's not... )

eh - maybe I should just backspace...

First, our target audience is anyone really. Anyone interested in fitness.

Yea, I agree. Because of BFFM's popularity, it turned a good product into a spammish cult. It's unfortunate too, b/c that book still gets my seal of approval. For the novice person looking to really get their feet wet with the broad category that nutrition is, it's perfect IMO. There's parts of it I don't agree with, but as a whole, I'd recommend it to just about anyone.

On top of that, I know Tom personally. I've never actually met, but we've talked on the phone and have exchanged a ton of emails. I used to moderate his forum as well. He's a class act and *really* knows his stuff. I'd love to interview him actually.

Plus, I don't mind spamism if the product is worthy. Sure, it's not sales/marketing tactics I'd resort to, but if it works for someone I respect, just b/c I don't agree with the tactic, doesn't make it wrong.

That's the beauty of being the interviewer.... I ask the questions and dictate the conversation. :)

Though without a doubt, any author I interview is going to put their plugs into the interview. It's only right... it's their living.

Ohhh, good call Mal.

Rippetoe and Kilgore. I actually have access to Rippetoe... he's a friend of a friend and the vibe I get from him is a good one... he loves spreading information. So he'd probably be interested.

I think the questions I ask will take care of that. Plus, if I do it in a blog, which I'm not sure about that yet, but if I do, it's going to be full of stuff that's of interest to our taget population. Not just interviews with strength coaches and the like. It's where I'd post some of my own articles, some Q&As possibly... things like that.

eh - maybe I should just backspace...

Hell no, I'm not ever taken back by constructive criticism, ever. I appreciate it actually... it's good to talk out and through some of this stuff.

and just thinking out loud here - and I can't think of any names but i'm sure they must exist -but the fitness industry is very male dominated... any females that have any expertise to contribute or learn about would be interesting... but I can't think of any off the top of my head...

I know a few and have thought of that. Great minds think alike.

GREAT articles on his site.

I've used this one several times for reference.

Yea, he's technical but Lyle has a way of making the hardest of sciences understandable and to the point.

Plus he's honest as all hell.

I don't like bullshit and that's exactly what you don't get with him.

:rolls eyes:

:deletes links for steve's site:

::moves on::

oh wait - is interview code for something.. then well if you have krista's permission - carry on:D

I just think it would be interesting to get the inside scope on the methods there and what the trainer's takes are on the shows impact on the world. I'd actually have some pretty tough questions if they/she would be willing to answer.
