...from this piece of carrot cake! Carrots are good for you, afterall!!

Hello everyone,
I'm brand new to this online community and am very excited about the possibilities. I have a good deal of weight to lose. I'm currently 289 lbs and need to loose about 100 lbs. Wow! Just writing my weight and knowing that lots of people will read it is bringing a whole new level of reality to this process. I've tried many times in the past to loose weight but things are different this time. I've entered my 40's and am determined to avoid many of the health problems that have plagued some of my friends and family. You know the ones - diabetes, high blood pressure and so on. I'm thankful that I'm healthy and want to stay that way.
I've tried too many diets to name so I decided to devise my own plan this time. I've spent the last month or so evaluating just about every diet I've been on - what worked, what didn't work, what I liked, what I didn't like. And for me it really comes down to making a few changes - reduce portion sizes, limit sweets (clearly a problem area for me), exercise, and consistency. I have a tendency to "fall off the wagon" somewhere around week three and never get back on track.
Anyway, I hope this thread (I"m trying to learn the lingo!) isn't too long. Are there rules to using this thing???? I'm absolutely thrilled to be part of a community that knows what I'm talking about and what I'm going through. I'm excited to get to know you all a bit better!

Hello! I'm Julietta; new to this forum too. Well i should say that during my school days i was very lazy and didn't care about my weight the way i should have.
I am now sick of my weight and want toget rid of these the earliest possible. Hope to find some useful tips over here.
Anway i wish you all the best to achieve your goal.

have you asked yourself why you fall off the wagon at a specific interval? is the plan your putting yourself on too restrictive (been there, done that, got lots of tshirts) or is it just boring to you.

welcome to the site, listen to miss patty and start yourself a diary :D

Hey Kay Rey, looks like we have close to the same amount of weight to lose and are starting at the same time. My story is similar to yours, I will be turning 35 this week and just realized I need to get in control of my health. Well I have known this for a long time but it is a crazy cycle I think.

I was at 185 for years and years, that was about 20lbs over weight for me but then a couple of bad things happend in my life and I gained 40lbs +/- in about a year. When that happend I figured I would lose it but I told myself just don't get to 230. Well when I hit 235 I told myself don't get to 240, then when I hit 245 I said don't go over 250, this was just some crazy cycle that I kept going through in my head. I tried traditional diets but I would lose 20-30 lbs and then fall of the wagon only to gain more than I had lost.

Any way I will stop typing now, this is your thread. I just thought we could help each other lose about the same amount of weight. Let me know if you are interested, I need all the help I can get. I think I will start a journal.

I dunno I think most people who keep falling off the wagon just don't have enough self discipline. When the going gets tough you need to get tougher. It's like the several young smart people I know who dropped out of college. Was there something wrong with college? No, they just wimped out, basically. I think that same idea accounts for most people not sticking to their diet.

I think the point of having a forum such as this is to help with that self discipline. Everyone has their demons. I know people that dropped out of university that are in great shape, I also know people like me that went all the way in school and are in terrible shape. I know people that are in great shape and finished university that have other problems. I do believe that if someone is on this site for it's intended purpose have taken a step in life that helps put them on a path that encourages self discipline.

Yes, let's do this together

I would LOVE it if we could help each other! I"m starting a diary too so let's plan to go through the battle together. I agree with you that I need all the help I can get.

Yes, I have given much thought as to why I fall off the wagon. All that you've said is true - lack of willpower, plan too restrictive, boredom etc. It's alot easier to just eat whatever and fall back into old habits.
Anyway, I'll go ahead and start a diary and hope to hear from you all there.

I am looking forward to your diary Kay Rey, I started one just a little while ago. We can both do it. Take care.
