Just found this forum this morning and I quickly registered hoping to find advice, support and motivation for my weight loss.
A little about me...I'm 32 yrs old and a single mom to an amazing 10 yr old girl. I have always been on the heavy side and my weight has yo-yo'd quite a bit over the years. After my daughter was born, I spent a few years at my highest weight (249lbs!!) then decided I needed to do something about it, went on Adkins and lost 75lbs. I kept it off for quite a bit but seems I'm creeping up to my "old" weight now. A friend recently took some pictures while I was out playing and when I saw them, I literally cried. Guess I knew I was really gaining but didn't want to admit it until it was staring me right in the face. Now I am determined that I WILL NOT be playing out in public again until I can at least lose the dreaded double chin.
As of now, I am at 226lbs. I have made lots of "cut backs" in my eating habits. Smaller portions at dinner, no junk food, no soda, lots of water, no mindless snacking as I tend to do. I know the adjustments I have made are enough to produce results but I want more. I know I need to step things up a bit, so to speak.
As we all have, there are some obsticles I currently face. Medication I know, has helped pack on the pounds. I currently take Lyrica, Percocet and Ativan (Lyrica is known for the side effect of weight gain, but it is a necessary evil right now..the benefits of it far outweigh the negative..pardon the pun!) . I do have Tarlov Cyst Disease (basically large cysts in my lower spine/tailbone that sit on the nerve roots) hence the need for the medication. I do have a lot of pain but given the meds I am on, it is pretty much under control. Basically, I can do whatever kind of exercise I want unless I find it triggers a flare-up. Another problem I have is money (as much of the country is facing at the moment!). I cannot afford to purchase special foods, etc. In fact, cheap food is one of the culprits for the weight gain, I believe. As far as exercise, as long as it is nice out, I am always active with walking, hiking, camping, sports. etc. At that point, it's never "exercise" to me it's what I WANT to do. Unfortunately, at the moment, we are snow covered and at freezing temperatures and I have no access to a gym or any exercise equipment at home.
I am going to get down to 180lbs! I'm not setting a "time-frame" as I know sometimes weight loss has it's own agenda, our body plateaus, etc. I definately am looking at dropping some weight before summer though before my regular Saturday night "gigs" begin.
So..any words of advice for me?
Thanks to all of you. I am really enjoying reading the boards.
