Im having a challenging time losing a few lbs

Hello,

My name is David, I'm a new member having joined just last week.

Briefly, I'm a 40 y/o male with Type 2 Diabetes, started my weight loss program this past January with 262lbs on my body. This morning I am down to 208lbs. I work out daily at the gym with cardio and weights and swim laps nightly for 30 minutes.

Since I began losing weight I never had a problem losing the lbs as long as I put the time in exercising and watching my food portion controls. Last week I dropped from 210lbs to 207lbs which I was happy about. That evening I returned from working out, my partner was eating chocolate (sooo evil) which caused me to have a tremendous chocolate craving. 1/2 cup of ice cream and 2 resees PB cups later I felt good and guilty all rolled into one. Sometimes you just have to give in to the cravings, or at least I think so. The next morning I get up and I'm back to 210lbs (what? How'd that happen?) and up until this morning with twice daily workouts and watching my diet i.e. no ice cream and chocolate I had not been able to get rid of those 3 lbs, in fact I have only lost two of them.
I'm puzzled why the sudden weight increase over something that I thought was insignificant; it wasn't a gallon it was 1/2 cup and two PB cups not a Halloween bag fergodsake!
Up until now I thought I knew what I was doing but I'm puzzled with this one.
Do I need to step up my workout? Stay away from ANY fat?

I'm looking forward to reading your suggestions,

Thank you,

David

David,

I really can't see how that little bit of calories could have caused 3 pounds of weight gain. There are 3500 calories in 1 pound and 1/2 ice cream and 2 peanut butter cups are hardly 1000 calories. I'm thinking that there is something else happening that is causing the weight gain (or lack of loss)--my first inclination is that your body has decided to start toning up your muscles a little bit. Give it a few days and see what happens.

Thanks Kaitie,

My workout buddy suggested the same thing, we do workout daily with weights and have been doing so daily for over two months so this could be more than just an "I ate too much of the wrong thing".

I'll continue to monitor my progress and keep you informed via this site.

Thanks again,

I am now up to 212lbs, gained another two, honestly I cannot figure this one out except that maybe this plataeau is happening because of my working out, lifting weights, and swimming? My clothes are not fitting anymore snug, and I do see small changes in my body........I'm going to continue working out and swimming and see what happens.

Keep up the good work!

Last time I had a couple weeks where the numbers on the scale refused to move it was my body making muscle---then in one night I lost 5 pounds. I'm actually hoping that something very similar is happening to me right now because I've gone up 2.5 pounds and *crosses fingers* I really hope it goes away again VERY soon. Keep on truckin' though! The numbers will move soon enough!

Hello Katie,
