I'm 23 and I have portion control problems.

I'm 23. I've never joined a forum like this before but am really serious about losing weight and thought I would give it a shot.

I'm technically overweight and I've spent a lot of time thinking about losing weight. I used to run every now and then but am impatient with myself and quickly quit any kind of exercise routine I start. I considered walking around campus my exercise and have stayed at a consistent weight for a while (a weight which I am unhappy with).

I don't really eat "bad food." My problem is eating too much food in general. I was brought up being told to eat everything on my plate, and I did.

The last couple of weeks I have gone to the gym at least 4 times a week doing cardio for an hour and weight lifting for 20-30 minutes each gym session. I can feel myself starting to become impatient with myself already though, wanting to drop the weight right now and not really seeing any significant difference.

Anyway, I'm new and that's my story.

There are a lot of people who were taught about the starving children in ::insert third world country here:: and you need to clean your plate.. .

Solution: use a smaller plate

Your mind sees a full plate and can grasp the concept of satisfaction... you're cleanig your plate but putting a lot less on the plate... so it works out well

I too was brought to eat what is on the plate, now that I am older I realize that it is ok not to eat everything - when your full your full. If you still have a problem with leaving food on your plate then take smaller portions, which is not a bad idea. Check out , its a free site which is extremely helpful. It will tell you how many calories, carbs, fat you are taking in. We all normanaly eat way more then an actual serving size is & this site helps to realize that (as long as you are being honest as to what your portion sizes realy are) We all get impatant & want the miricle solution, many look to a wonder drug just to find out later down the road that wonder drug did them more harm then good. If you want something you need to work for it in this case would be controlling your intake & excersize. Yes there will plenty of times when you feel as though you are not getting anywhere but chances are that someone will notice the difference & everytime the scale does deside to move is an awsume feeling. Something else to keep in mind that a lot of people forget is that muscle weighs more then fat so if the scale does not move that does not mean that it is a bad thing.

I agree with the above posts being brought up the same way. I starting using a smaller plate and felt like I was eating a ton because my plate was full. My stomach as shrunk considerably and in general now I don't have any ambition to eat more because I feel so sick. I now try to really listen to my body and stop when I'm SATISFIED not FULL or STUFFED. It really works! Good luck!

42yrs, female, 5ft7' cardio 5x a week. If I eat 1500 cals or 1400 or 1600 my weight doesn't move(plateu for 3months now)
Previous weight 111kg and now its 66kg(taken me 4yrs to get to this weight)
Want to get to 60kg, how????

I know what you mean.

I also have trouble with portion control, I usually eat until I am stuffed. And I can't tell you how many times I have started working out and then in 3 weeks I am right back to not working out. One problem I have is using food as a reward; when I was growing up we did not eat out except for special occasions and now that I have some control over what I eat I like to eat out as a treat. Stick to it and let me know how it goes!
