I am new to the whole fitness thing .. I'm looking for some good exercises I can do that will help me shed pounds. I am looking to lose weight mostly in my abdomen region, that's my trouble spot. I don't know what's good for that. My mom is going to be giving me a Nordic Trainer.. not sure if this is something that will help .. but if you have some ideas, please let me know!

Even any recommendations on DVD programs.. ie: Turbo Jam?

I agree, you need to start by reading the stickies. One glaringly obvious misconception you have is that you can pick and choose where the fat leaves your body.

You can't.

I know that. I didn't mean for it to come across like I wanted to just lose fat in certain areas. What I mean, is I would like exercises that will help those areas. I want to get fit on the whole, I just don't want to lose weight, yet still have a gut. ;P If that makes any sense.

Well if there were specific exercises that targeted fat deposits, then you'd be able to spot reduce. What you're asking for is what I'm saying doesn't exist.

2-3 days per week of weight training

2-5 days per week of cardio

Above all else, appropriate diet

That's about it in a nutshell.

Hey there,

I was looking for weight loss or some exercise tips forum as I was out of shape after my car accident. After Googling, I came across a website called averageguyworkouts.com/myforum. Their online discussion forum was great help to me. Their staff helped me personally for all the queries. I highly recommend their help and support.

Hi,

I quite like the Biggest Loser Workout, mainly cause im a Biggest Loser whore..but I like the way you can personalise it (to a certain extent) ie. choose a warm up, then decide if you want to do a lower intensity training or a high intensity training or both..

Plus I find it quite motivating...Im sure others will disagree but thats my 2 pennys (cant say cents..not american) :)

Hi libejo,

I have found that running or walking about 3 miles per week helps out with the abdomen area. I also do sit-ups where I touch my right elbow to my left knee and then lay back and then sit up and touch my left elbow to my right knee. This really works your "love handles" if you will.

No amount of running or situps will work if you are in a caloric surplus.

And how does the exercise you suggest work your love handles? I wasn't aware that you can 'work' fat.

hello, i wish it could help you, and set as guidelines
"5 key for weight loss"
1. Metabolism — faster metabolism burns more calories, hence less fat.
2. Exercise — stay in the fat-burning zone and build lean muscle.
3. Right calories — consume foods with the right kind and amount of calories.
4. Glycemic Index — low-GI foods keep blood-sugar levels steady.
5. Rest and recovery — promote growth hormone for muscle condition, and reduce cortisol (’stress’ hormone).
