Weight-Loss Icy's Workout Challenge #2

Weight-Loss
Yep and thanks! I started out run/walking to keep my heart rate in the aerobic zone and then on January 17th I finally got to a point where I could run (super slowly) for 30 minutes straight. Since then I've built up to 5 kilometers at a time starting at 47 minutes and down to 43:20 tonight for my 3rd 5K. Honestly I never thought I could run like this and my weight loss has been disappointing. I am feeling great and I give the heart rate monitor credit for keeping me from overdoing it starting out. The end goal is to be able to run a 30 minute 5K most days of the week.

Keep at it. Remember that it's not a race, it's a lifestyle. The weight will come down in time, and you're doing it in a healthy way! The fact that you can run alone shows that you're getting fit. Super motivating!

:iagree:
It's true, the weight may not be coming off quickly right now, but more importantly you are becoming more fit and that is proven by your faster runs. GREAT JOB!! Just keep at it and don't let the scale discourage you - it will catch up.

As for me - I need to catch up! After the last 3 days of horrible eating and tons of sugary treats to stay away and attempt to stay focused I MUST do better today. As I sit here with fun dip, sour keys, skittles, chocolate, and a ring pop next to me. All unopened. Well the sour keys and skittles are, they are leftover from the bridal shower from last week. But I haven't eaten any yet! Yet being the key word here...not sure that will stay but as long as I don't eat it ALL it's OK.

I did about 3 hours of walking in the mall on Sunday, but that means between today, tomorrow and Saturday I need 2 more to hit my 3/wk goal.

Thanks Loch and Icy! I've decided to go a step further and forget about the scale all together. I can track my food, exercise, clothing fit, and belly measurement. I don't need to know what I weigh to know I'm feeling better, my stomach's smaller, and my clothes are looser. I can't weigh without letting it effecting my attitude. If my clothes and belly are getting smaller I am losing fat. I'm changing my lifestyle permanently and that new lifestyle will eventually result in my being much less fat and much more fit whatever the number will be.

I wish I had the motivation to exercise right now. I'm feeling a little ill, and with my treadmill out of commission I've been so...bleh. I still walk home, so at least I get 20min of exercise a day. I really need to get more sleep and push myself harder.

Icy, you better get back on track once your trip is over!

Q, I need to start measuring myself...but I'm afraid I'm gonna fudge up the numbers lol. I've never done it before. I think that if I did, I might get a bit more motivated, because I think that you're right about the scale. It can be so detrimental to our progress.

For me if I suck in and measure at the belly button and then push my gut out and measure at the belly button the average of those two measurements is very close to a relaxed measurement. That way I have a method of double checking a measurement if it seems off. My measurements vary more at first, but if you do it daily you will start to get a feel for where the tape is, how much tension you have on it, and whether or not your stomach is relaxed. You get pretty consistent results after that. It's most important that you do it consistently and that the number decreases over time. I did my measurements post bathroom first thing in the morning so food/liquid in the stomach didn't cause variations. I'm going to try to remember to measure in the morning. I may have to tie the tape to my pants as a reminder because I keep forgetting to do it.

Daily or as often as I remember. The measurement won't change day to day, but getting the same measurement several days in a row makes me more confident in my accuracy and gives me more practice. It will vary a little day to day and once a week would be often enough. I think after I did it daily for a while before I started doing it as it suited me. I'm sure I'm bigger than where I got to the 3teens before, but I had gone from 60" to 49" at one point. I'm going to guess 51" for the morning, but maybe as big as 53". That's just my best guess from how my jacket fit me today.

I'm going to make a real go of running every day for the rest of the challenge. 2 of 21 runs in a row complete.

So I finally got my boyfriend to follow the warranty instructions he was emailed days ago. We had to take apart the console and make sure everything was connected. Seems bizarre, considering it was just fine until recently. Everything was fine. So then he had to unplug some power cables, and replug them. For some reason, the damn thing started to spark when we plugged it in. Not only that, but it was tripping the breaker no matter what we plugged it into.

Either it's royally screwed, or our trailer wiring is too old to handle it. So, we're going to see what the people say, and worst case scenario we're going to see about returning it to the store. I hope they will refund it. As much as I want a treadmill, if it's going to cause power issues, I don't think I want the hassle.

I'm going to need to seriously work on waking up early so I can walk to work and get in the extra exercise. Once it's warm out I can do my 2-hour long walks around the city after work. Right now, it's pretty darn cold, I think I got frostbite or windburn on my legs...

I'm also going to use an app I bought a while ago called "Zombis, run". I want to start running too!

Good luck with your goal, Q, it sounds fantastic :D.

I just scrolled through the thread and checked out everybody's progress. Except for the few that we've lost everyone is doing very well! I've got 6 runs in a row down and 16 to go. I also passed the 45 mile mark so far since 1/10.

TOOT! <My own horn. :D

I have been horrible with no time to post :( I did some workouts - just walking indoors as usual, but it's something! Haven't posted on here yet but I will I swear. For now it's almost time for bed!

I've run 8 of 22 days in a row. I'm not sure if my body is going to let me run every day yet or not. Yesterday was dicey, but I made it. I don't suppose that I have imposed any speed or time minimu, so if I have a really bad day I could do a short and slow run. I had my quickest run so far last night after tinking I wouldn't make it all day.

Icy, I'm glad to hear that you just haven't posted.

Jen, great job on geting your 3x every week! Lots of gym and treadmilling going on.

HollyBelle, hardcore almost every day. You're awesome! I see all of your snow shoveling so great job not letting winter get in the way. Just think how much easier it will be for you in spring.

Loch you've been doing great since you joined us. Keep at it!

Transparent, AthalaRanger, and BlueDragon! If you happen by rejoin us. It would be cool to have people return to finish up the last couple weeks.

This has been great for me. I've really forged a habit over the last 6 weeks and this challenge defintley helped that to happen. I'd be very open to another challenge like this one or a bit different if anyone has any ideas. If no one does I may have to come up with something myself. I think I may make a running challenge, but I really like this one where no one is excluded and it's all about improvement and good habits. Thanks Icy!

Same for me. If it wasn't for the challenge, I would not have kept up with the exercise this long. Thanks, Icy!!

Great job, everyone! :)

Thanks Q and Jen! And for everyone who has/is participating :) I know it has helped me at least walk in place or around the office more. Sadly it has not gotten me moving more than that due to being so busy with work, but something is better than nothing!

I will definitely look at doing a new challenge when this one is done. Perhaps one where walking will NOT count to force myself to do more than that. I feel like I'm cheating by just walking randomly in on spot or pacing around the office or going to the malls for wedding stuff.

I will say that being able to count walking or stretching helped me to get the ball rolling as it allowed me to say I had no zero days. I did something for my fitness every day. That doesn't prevent you from staying at the lowest level if you aren't self-motivated. Maybe a limit to x number minimum effort days per week? Or a minimum day has to be followed by greater effort? I don't know.

Stopped exercising due to ill health, but am getting back on track now and will start posting again :) hope you guys are well

Day 15 in a row and i set a new 30 minute distance record at 2.3 miles. 7 days left to make the end of the contest.

I hope everyone is ready to finish strong.
